I found this old shack all broken up in a junk box at a train show... poorly glued together, was missing a roof, and it was really busted up.... for a dollar... I added a back porch, a roof, some weathering.... just needs a front stoop and its ready for a new life!

It felt good to give this model a new lease on life.... What have you brought back from the "junk box"?

Two expensive kits, that I found as mostly complete, but needing help, models in

junkboxes, were the Lionel round "concrete" coaling tower, and the Walther's fuel

depot.  These are/were expensive kits. One other fished out of a junkbox was the

Lionel grain elevator.  There were all restored and enhanced, and are another reason

to miss the many train shows that were once common.

I've always thought of doing the same thing but never took the plunge.  After seeing what you just did with this little shack I think I will take the plunge next time, if for no other reason than to have something to practice my skills on - if it doesn't turn out there's no real loss.

You really did wonderful work on the shack.  I especially like the way you integrated into your layout with it being on a hill.

Thanks for sharing!

I had tossed this into the trash can in my own shop and left it there for a week after writing it off as unsalvageable....and then I figured out what it was supposed to be and then I dug it out & finished it.

Awesome, J!

I love salvaging junk in all of its forms.  Here's one of my projects.

Picked up a prewar Lionel 164 log loader at York in junker condition:

IMGP3865

IMGP3866

IMGP3870

I like working with basket-case accessories, because I feel less guilty jazzing them up a bit.  Here's the loader's second life:

That's a great looking model, but I've got to ask, how are the O scale people supposed to get in there?
