I grew up in a loyal Milwaukee Road family so the Chicago & North Western was always "Brand X" at our house. On several occasions we rode C&NW out to Clinton, Iowa to visit my sister and the trains were mostly old heavyweight equipment and pretty shabby. And I always thought their station in downtown Chicago was a dump compared to Union Station used by MILW, CB&Q, PRR and GM&O.

Can't say I hate 'em but... in recent years I haven't had much interest in BN or BNSF since I preferred their classic pre-merger identities of CB&Q, NP, GN and AT&SF.

And I'm talking real hate here!

Conrail

They never got much of anything right.

Really? Do you guys understand that it was Conrail that took over the Penn Central mess, turned it around and made it profitable? Conrail was one of the best run railroads in the world at the time. They made it such a hot property that CSX and NS BOTH wanted to buy it!

And some of you don't like the railroad because they had blue motive power? Wow.

In my defense the OP focused on paint, so did I. A long time ago I was a graphic artist, top of my class!(obviously a long time ago or I would have realized how much ire something like a red angry face can bring). The pre-artist me just saw a blue and white "get er done" paint bomb. Like it was designed for a boardroom, or by a boardroom. Their Bicentennials make up most of the bottom of that list too, and an artistic education didn't help curb my overall opinion of it all. But it is only my opinion, mileage may vary. CSX doesn't bother me, neither do other blue trains. I like blue...I like green too....especially on money. (I cant believe we both like money   .

How does one dislike a railroad?    Wow..... I mean really.   Are some of you so wrapped up in this hobby that you have to think about disliking a certain railroad.

On the other hand I think it's great that we, as a whole, fully emulate every single negative stereotype of model railroaders.  This one just adds to the very long list.

Hey kids, come join our hobby and you, too can become a curmudgeonly, smelly, basement dwelling, socially awkward hobbyist.

I am sooo sick of ogr forum people who see a topic they don't like or are not interested in.   Instead of moving on, they just dump on the topic like this.

If you can't contribute to the OP's original topic, DON'T POST!!!!

I'm with you. I'm not a professional graphic artist, but I do have some training (classes at the Smithsonian). I had the same reaction as you did to the Conrail logo and color scheme. It looks like it was designed by a committee (which it was), in conformance with the corporate logo fad of the week. The light blue and white is simply hideous - no contrast. It would be a C minus at best in any design class. I like blue just fine - the EMD/B&O Royal Blue scheme used on locomotives and passenger cars is a masterpiece. The Conrail design is a paint bomb.
