The mystery of the vanishing heavyweight

Hi Fan, I have lived here most of my life, about 15 min. from Avella, and never knew these items existed! We just had 6" of snow last night, but after it settles in a day or two I will try to locate these items and let you know! 

Does anyone know where this car went? I think the car had something do with an important industrialist, but I'm not sure. 

How would the railroads move cars that are not up to modern standards?

With special treatment/handling of some type? Or not at all??

Well, you piqued my interest. I just finished speaking with the Meadowcroft site.

Some information:

The car was a private coach that was in excellent condition. The interior had all of the original appointments, sheets, silverware, dishes, etc. 4 cabins, kitchen, bath servant quarters.

The person said  it was associated with Union Pacific RR originally.

The car is now in Sacramento with a State Museum.

They didn't have any further specifics.

I forgot to ask how it was transported.

I imagine it was either moved by lowboy flatbed truck the whole way to California, or via the lowboy to the Wheeling and Lake Erie line at Avella and thus onto the national network. I would have liked to see it done, though, because some of the curves on the road up to Meadowcroft are almost hairpins. 

I was given a contact at the California State Railroad Museum. I have emailed this curator and will provide the information, if I receive any about the car.

Any news?

Sorry to say, nothing. I called the general number and the person that answered gave me the email of a curator.

Needless to say, I am disappointed.

Perhaps you would have better luck.
