We hi guys

We have been doing work on the layout up grading for the Big Boys to run on the layout.

When we started the layout years back we never thought of the bigger engines.

Like the Big Boys and Centipedes an other big engines running on the layout.

Well we broke down after our summer run for fun day and tor into the layout to fix problem spots we had.

There were just a few most were tunnel portals that we went an widened.

Thy weren't a problem. We just cut up the center of the portal spread them out and added plaster an re carved them.

Our cliffs were the biggest problem. It had a good old zig zag that had to go.

Well seven big mice started ripping into layout to make changes.

Well here is the progress on our Big Boy project so far.

first three pictures are before the mice got a hold of the layout.

Let me tell you there are some BIG mice down here.

Prototypical, too. RR's often have had to upgrade the line and clearances when bigger equipment was purchased, especially in steam days.

Of course, a UP BB in N. PA in steam days...? Well, now, I dunno....

I envy the space, here in The Land of No Basements. (OK, not "none", but not typical.)

It's the price of living in the Sunbelt.

Yes, its worth all the work to see the BIG BOYS going around the curves, through the Tunnels, over the Bridges, Over Troubled Water, just to see them pick up Steam on the Straight AWAYS....Its also possible to pull longer trains with less derailments. The wider the curves, the better. From looking at the pictures, it looks like a Job Well Done. Thanks for Posting and Happy Railroading....

Well getting a lot done. The track work is getting there. It's just about done.

The bridge deck is extended from the 40 inches to 55 inches.

And yes it is all worth it Larry. We should be able to brake our record pulling cars on layout. our max was 90 cars. Can't wait to see what the new record will be.

will post more pics later.

Morning John
That is a single engine pull at 90 cars. Was the PRR Y-3.
The 115 cars was a multi engine pull.
I am waiting to see how Manny cars your big boy is going to pull for a single engine pull.
That's going to be existing to see. I know it should out pull my Y-3. Now that the
Zig zag is gone it's going to make for some interesting pulls.
Just got to finish were the just before the bridge with the upper track.
