Perhaps he is talking about this movie?

Of course Hot Water is being persnickety-literal as usual. The OP of course means the "SOUTHERN Pacific COAST Daylight" the run synonymous with Southern Pacific 4449, which is the locomotive that starred in "Tough Guys" with Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas.

The train wasn't called the Southern Pacific Coast Daylight in the movie, so sue the OP...

Sorry to disagree with you, smart guy, but THAT is NOT the movie/TV program the OP was talking about, i.e. not Tough Guys! I'm sure he is referring to the old B&W TV program (most likely before you were born) "Highway Patrol", staring Broderick Crawford, as "Matthews". That said, I don't recall the program using the name "Pacific Daylight".

It was just a guess as to what the OP was talking about given the seemingly random nature of the title of the post.

"Pacific" + "Daylight" + "Robbing" = "Tough Guys"

I think it was a pretty logical conclusion given the circumstances. Not recalling every detail of the movie, I made the leap that "Matthews" was a character in the movie, and that the "Highway Patrol" was the law agency chasing the train to Mexico.

Yup, I'm not old enough to know this "Highway Patrol" show.

Big deal.  It makes no sense to get picky about trains on old TV shows.

I caught a portion of "Man From Uncle" this weekend where they were going to Washington D.C. via the Southern Pacific.  Napoleon Solo and company had to get off the train because of a Thrush attack.

They proceeded to walk to D. C.

Long walk...

And who can forget the Fonz and the gang going from Milwaukee to L.A via the Pennsy?

I'll never forget a Dukes of Hazzard episode which showed Boss Hogg almost getting creamed at a grade crossing by a SP Daylight, in Georgia (not to mention well into the Amtrak era). But oddly enough, the stock film looked flawless for the show as it was filmed in roughly the same spot the TV shows was, only 20+ years earlier...
