I am currently saving up to purchase one of the Z-6 in SP&S that MTH is coming out with and i started thinking has any one of the major train makers thought about doing a Northern Pacific 4-8-4 or even the Spokane Portland & Seattle 700? Has anyone on the forum here ever kit bashed their own NP northern or SP&S 700. If you have, can you post up some pictures. I was starting to think of maybe buying another northern of a different road name and changing it over. Thanks! Here is an HO picture i found on the web to get some ideas rolling...

3rd Rail did NP A3 and A4 class 4-8-4's in O scale, along with SP&S Class E-1 (#700) several years ago. These are hard to find, selling for nearly their original price when listed at auction. I am still looking for a 3rd Rail #700.
I just looked up the pictures… great detail on those locomotives… sure would be cool to see something like that from Lionel or MTH. Add in some steam effects and i would ebay all the baby clothes my wife has in bins downstairs to buy one of those lovely 4-8-4's!
Well, of course Lionel did a 4-8-4 NP Northern ("Four Aces") in grey livery quite some time ago. Semi-scale.
I looked on Ebay and they have several Four Aces for sale now. Lionel #18016.
Thanks for letting me know... I'll have to check it out. I did pick up a SP&S atlas O boxcar today... Those atlas cars sure are nice when it comes to detail!

You might try contacting Sunset/3rd Rail directly, as I'm pretty sure that they might still have one of the Timken Four Aces models in stock. www.3rdrail.com
NATEO, which portion of the SP&S are you planning to model, Vancouver to Wishram, Wishram to Spokane, or something else?
700 sure would make for a fine model. I've seen her under steam and ridden behind her several times over the years.
I took this shot in Wishram on the NRHS convention in 2005, along the old SP&S:
I really like the stretch from Portland to Wishram... It sure is beautiful out here in the NW! Yeah your right P51 it pretty neat seeing the 700 when she's running two years ago our family went on the Christmas train out here with the 700 pulling it. I'm never forgetting how fast my kids hands went for their ears when she pulled out. The steam and whistle combo was pretty cool!
