(NEW PHOTO'S POSTED (Dec 23).

The TMB Model train club is located in Farmingdale on Long Island NY. I started this thread a while back on the 3-rail section but now have some updates. I will be posting updates of our progress. After a voting process where three layouts were proposed what you see below is the clubs selection. The area in the lower right depicts the lower level and contain mostly hidden storage/staging tracks.

The orange and Green lines are the Branch Lines two simple loops for operators, Approx 300 foot run. The Blue and Black lines are based on a simple concept of a dog-bone with a circle wrapped around it, then stretched and twisted throughout the train room. These line when operated conventionally will accommodate two operators for some fun operation, and they are approx 650 feet long

Not shown in the diagram and slated for the near future will be a logging line and a ceiling line encircling the entire train room. I hope you enjoy this thread and I will continue to update as time goes by

Given the size of the layout room, are there any plans to have the ceiling line connected to the main layout?

While I imagine such a thing would not be accessed frequently, but it might be invaluable to be able to swap trains on such a loop without having to physically carry them up to and down from it.

I'm assuming that vertical clearances are planned to accommodate modern equipment such as double-stacks. I know the NJ Hirailers have places where unmodified stacks cannot go, although I think that's due to parts of their overall setup containing pre-existing layouts than any design flaws.

Rail ride

No plans to connect the ceiling line to the main lines.  We have a minimum clearance standard of 7" so everything can pass on any line.

I notices your from the Bronx. We have an open house  the Sat/Sun after Thanksgiving. come on down.

That look's like a nice start on the layout it take's a lot of work to do a layout that big, I have 1'000 sq.ft. room for my layout I wish I had 1'700 sq.ft. any bigger than that it get to hard for one person to run, I need the space for yard's and building's .

Pops

Appreciate your following this thread. Its a lot easier to build something this BIG in a club with 70 members. Also since our last build we have a fair number of the members now retired so they have more available time. Last we were able to salvage a lot of the material from the previous layout, building wood and some track etc. so supplies were readily available.

THANKS

Steve
