John,

Should we expect similar PW wheel slip on Gargraves track that you do on your club's Atlas track?

Anyone,

I have an opportunity to replace my O27 track on my home layout with NEVER-USED O gauge Lionel tubular track. This O gauge track fits together so well and tight! It is like I would be back in 1956 when my starter set was new! I would not need to screw it down.

Your opinions please. Shall I fore-go this "step-backwards" expect I will get minimal wheel spin on my PW locomotives, and that old but new tubular track will be fine for any newer locomotive? Or just same my money for and buy modern track, since I intent to get some modern MTH Premier and Lionel Legacy locomotives?

Pappy,

I understand, you've made a good point. We should be aware use of this and any powders. The train is setup in our garage/shop that also contains our heating system for our house. Being short on garage space, I have the platform suspended from the garage ceiling, use a hoist to lift it so we can park under the train platform. If we had an old forced air heating system, then the powder should be easily spread to the living space would certainly be a problem. However, we heat our home and heat our hot water with a modern boiler that is vented (intake as well as exhaust) to the outside. This results in radiant heat being moved to the living space, and no real exchange between the garage/shop and the living space.

I'd expect any flat rail track to behave similar to Atlas, though I can't say that I've actually tried it.

If you go to O-gauge track, you can get up to O72 curves and switches, so you could run pretty much anything on it.  If that's the low-cost option, I'd certainly consider it.
