I need to replace the traction tires on my Cab Forward Stock 73-8071-250. The wheel with the traction tire is the one by the steam chest and the nut will not clear the push rods. On my other steamers the traction tires are on the rear wheels where it is easy to get to the nut and remove the side rods. Does anyone have any experience changing the traction tires on this particular locomotive?

First, your cab forward #4294 is NOT an "AC-9", but an "AC-12".

Second, the ONLY way I have ever found for changing a traction tire on one of these cab forward models (or any of the other large articulated models)  was to remove the side rods, which is NOT an easy job. Thus, I began using "BullFrog Snot", instead of those darned traction tires.

Your right Hot Water. The AC-9 is a 2-8-8-4 not a 4-8-8-2 like the cab forward. Sometimes the AC-9 is referred to as a "backwards cab forward.
