Hello all, long time lurker, first time poster. I LOVE this forum!

Was hoping someone can help me out here. I recently purchased my son an MTH Dash 9 Loco from a local train show. We also purchased a MTH Z1000 controller. Hooked everything up last night, and everything worked perfectly! Bells, whistles, neutral, forward & reverse - all perfect! Today, we wake up, he turns it on - and as soon as he turns on the controller, the horn blows. Absolutely nothing we do shuts it off, and the physical button isn't stuck. Not only that, it won't move. So, did the research - replaced the battery with a 9v for the time being, and did the reset on the controller (whistle button followed by bell button 5 times in 1/2 intervals). Nothing. Don't even get the 2 quick horns confirming anything, and even if I did - I wouldn't know it being the horn won't shut off. Even read to hold down on the whistle button as I unplug it. Nada. Absolutely nothing I do works. Whistle stays on, and loco doesn't budge from neutral. What baffles me is that it worked the night before, and it wasn't touched (other than unplugging the controller from the wall) until we attempted to use it again today. Now I have a very upset 5 year old who is obsessed with trains. In the meantime, I ordered another Z1000 controller in hopes that is the problem, but figured I'd ask if anyone had any idea what the problem could be before the new one comes in the mail.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem can be? I've seen similar issues with the loco stuck in neutral, but I haven't quite found an issue like mine.

Does anyone have any ideas what can be wrong?

Thank you in advance for whatever guidance can be given.

Hello, I hooked up my 400e tonight and I was getting this Issue... no matter what I do the horn stays on and it won't move unless I hold in the bell button but then the horn comes back on.  I also am using a z-1000.  I ruled it out because it runs my 384e with no issues but the 400e is a mess... any input would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, steve

Thanks for all of the input guys.  I did a factory reset last night and the horn stopped constantly blowing.  It now runs completely fine until you turn the throttle up past half and then the sound kicks off and goes silent.  The train keeps running as it should.  Speeds up and slows down.  I have a new z-1000 transformer on order.  Any input would be appreciated.  Also... if you turn the train off and right back on the sounds are back.

Steve,

I did a factory reset last night and the horn stopped constantly blowing. It now runs completely fine until you turn the throttle up past half and then the sound kicks off and goes silent.

Actually, it sounds as if the engine might have a feature called "Clickity-Clack" turned on. While I've never seen it working under conventional mode, it's possible that it might have been turned on under DCS before you bought it and might have survived a conventional (transformer) reset. BTW, although the engine manual may say that a transformer reset (bells & whistles) is a "factory" reset, it is in actuality a "feature" reset".

What  "Clickity-Clack" does is, when the engine reaches approx. 30 SMPH, all engine sounds turn off and only the "clicking" of the rails is heard. Listen carefully to see if that's what's happening.

When the engine slows back down, engine sounds return.
