Trees @ .37 ea.-Update

I'm a little confused. Is it 10 pcs or 50. They quote $3.77 each not 37cents.

Look forward to seeing your follow up post on these trees, I already use this type of tree, but I purchased them at a train show. Do not know the name of manufacture. I am going to order more, if you think they are quality.

I sent them a note about how many in the shipment.  They said a total of 50pc.

We will see.

A small detail that Greg left out about these trees is that they are in a place called "China". That being said I would not necessarily exclude them from consideration because of that "minor" point. I recently ordered some O scale figures direct from a Chinese manufacturer on Ebay, and was shocked to see that they arrived in San Francisco 2 days later, and then 3 days after that they made it down here to The Furnace. I was even pleasantly surprised that what I received was the same as what was pictured, but reading through the comments on some of the Chinese Ebayers this is not always the case. I will be very interested in how these turn out.  I went nearly broke buying over 400 trees last year for my "forest."  it sounds like a lot but frankly I have concluded you need at least 1,000 before you see the forest and not the trees.  It would be alot more affordable at 37 cents per tree.  

A forest-making tip I saw many years ago suggested just using lychen all over the mountain.  Especially at a distance, the trunks aren't necessary.

As I read it it is 10 of each of 5 sizes of trees.  total is 50

I have bought from these from this seller before, they are okay tree -- not premium, but great for filler trees (background), or making a forest -- not the front yard of that fine detail 1:48 scratch built model of your grandmothers house, but they are $.377 per tree not 20 to 30 times that.

They arrived quickly as most packages from China do these days, a week to 10 days, mine came in 5 plastic bags inside a single box, 50 trees total. The smallest ones are tiny, 2" high, but worked out okay for a large hedge.

The current listing is for 5 packages of 10 trees each, 50 total. Each 10 tree packet is $3.77, $.377 per tree, but you must buy 5 packets.

This is what I asked them:

does 5x10pcs mean I will get a total of 50 trees?

They replied:

And yes, you will get 50 pieces items with one order.

Yeah, I made the trees and have some of them on the layout - but they don't look as good as my favorite: JTT's trees.   But for big trees - not scale but still 8 to 12 inches, it gets reall expensive in a hurry, when you need a lot.

Try making trees yourself and save money.  My average cost is about .25 per tree.  Using all natural materials or stuff around the house. Pines out of sticks and scotchbrite pads or painted green furnace filters cut in small odd shapes and put on the sticks.  Cotton stuffing painted green set on a stick in the forest.  Correct you do not need to show the trunk of a tree except for up front in the forest.  I also use a very invasive reed here in Mi. called Phragmites (pic enclosed).  I use common spray paint and then dry them upside down, then plant in the ground.  I use Golden rod and Astilbe plants with ground foam on them using spray contact cement.  Color is the key.  Use a variety of green spray paints and ground foam.  I can usually do about 250 trees in a few hours with 2 of us working on them outside.  As you can see I have a very large forest on the layout and it covers 12 feet wide by about 3 1/2 feet deep.  I have also bought a few woodland scenic trees for up close but my homemade trees also work in the front of the layout.  I also go to Northern Mi. and collect Lychen and process it and dye it with old style tintix or rite dyes.  Sorry I'm old school and started doing this stuff back in the 70's.  To me there is great satisfaction in making your own trees. 

The only thing I don't use is hairspray because in my opinion I like contact cement and think it holds better but to each his own.  Read DKDKRD's article and try his methods because they do work.

I have bought a lot of 'stuff' from the chineese supplier shown and all of it has arrived quickly and matched the descriptions posted.  As far as figures are concerned the colors are a little bright  but for the price they work out well.  Russ

The trees from We_honest_CN are good for background/hillside trees (or a Christmass tree lot) as they're smaller. They do have some larger ones that are more expensive. For trees closer to the tracks in the foreground they need to be taller. Ours are about 22" tall and made from Balsa and Ming Fern by hand as purchasing trees that size would have been VERY expensive.
