On the advice of others here, I've been using Scotch-Brite pads and they work great.
I use 400 grit aluminum oxide sandpaper, not garnet. Scotch Brite would be my next choice. Tubular is pretty tough unlike some of the newer track brands. I had HO as a kid and the brass rails held up fine with sandpaper.
Some guys on the forum have made cleaning cars and use Scotch Brite pads underneath them.
I use 320 grit discs wrapped around a sponge, then wipe down with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol.
I have good results using a metal polish (Brasso is the cheapest) to get rid of crud and tarnish without using abrasives. Alcohol wash after.

I read on these pages that someone else uses WD40 to clean his track and from what I understand of the product it should be just fine.
I always used denatured alcohol on my Gargrave track.
When you use WD40 does it leave an oil film on the track? If so how dose it effect the traction of your engines?
Naval Jelly is an acidic rust remover. I would not use it for track. If your track is rusty, I would use scotch-brite pads as a few others here have recommended. I wouldn’t use the WD-40 or any other lubricant either. If your track is just dirty, I would use 91% alcohol.
I have used acetone for the last 20 years with excellent results,do not do this with the power on.

Where is the best place to find this particular sandpaper?

What is the purpose of the Alcohol for the tubular track?

Thank you John
For routine maintenance, just use denatured alcohol and a cloth. Keeping track rust free is a matter of environment. Eliminate the moisture.
Naval jelly? That's overkill.
Sand paper is never a good option. It will leave scratches that will collect grease and dirt. Use either a "bright boy" pad, or rag and alcohol.
