Two things I noticed about York City

PA is a different place. Mom was born in Pittsburgh and both my wifes parents were too. But when I visit I do almost feel like I am in another country!!! 

 

Our trip last summer to ride NKP 765 and go to Gettysburg was one of our best ever!!!!

I live in S. California and am born and raised in S. Louisana, I LOVE this town/city. I have visited twice now and must say I have been very pleasantly impressed with the "yankee" hospitality.

Wow, look how little that 1:1 scale man is next to that locomotive.  

Berkshire Hathaway is just another real estate chain relying on on the allure of the BH name. They are in Utah as well

But hey if it helps my Hathaway stock I'm good with it

3. always bumper to bumper traffic.

One sad item for my wife, Macy's near the Holiday Inn is gone. She was wondering why it was dark on the way back from the OGR Forum Thursday Night event.

 

I told her no worries, there is another one at the east end of town.

hi-way 30 is always a treat to navigate.

Yeah, boy..that U.S. 30 traffic is something else, in the afternoon in the rain.  All those

truckers driving it to dodge the parallel turnpike tolls....But driving some of the

surrounding small towns on really narrow stage-coach era streets is a trip, too.  You

can really tell that area was settled before the midwest and west.  I do have a good

time, generally, after walking open shows earlier in the week exploring...this time

went to New Freedom to take a look at their tea kettle and coaches, and again to Muddy Creek Forks, just because it is something that should be modeled.

One thing I've noticed is that if you're anywhere in the vicinity of route 30, it's almost impossible to make a left turn anywhere!    Come out of the Wingate Hotel, looking to get on 30 to head for the Fairgrounds, can't turn left.  Leave Ruby Tuesday's, want to get onto 30, can't turn left.  And it's also difficult to reverse direction...if you're traveling, say , east on 30 and you want to turn around and head west, there are no turn offs to make a U-Turn.  It becomes a major hassle!

I've noticed that 30 depends on the time of day you leave. Usually, when I go on a Friday, I've waited until after 6, and not had much trouble going East.

I left at 5 this year because I had plans with friends 20 miles away....It too me almost an hour and a half to get there!

Everything is soooooo green! Where is the dirt?

We have this thing out here..it's called "rain."    In fact, the night before the halls opened, it poured like crazy.  Made some of the travel from points east kind of dicey.

WHAT? rain..had to look that one up...weird stuff man

We were driving from Baltimore to York during a lot of that as we checked into our room at 130am Thurs. Wasn't sure if the rental car was going to work in the rain.

 

Being in York (and the east in general) I now see why all the O scale stuff is brick and green everywhere. It's quite a bit different than baked, crusty, and dry where I live. 

Yes, but you don't freeze your arse off in the winter.  

1st item,the road work on Market St, Route 462 on the South side of the Fair grounds. Looks like their goal is a speed bump every 30 yards as they install some type of below ground utility. I suspect by the April  2015 York the full length of 462 should be completed and will be rough enough to shake the fillings out of your teeth.  

For those of you concerned about route 30, recall it took the PA DOT about 10 years of construction congestion to complete the "improvements" everyone is complaing about.

 

2nd item, the trash collection truck is still on schedule at the Rodeway Inn in downtown York, 4AM Friday Morning. Way to go Rodeway!

 

Did anyone notice the smell of B A D oysters coming from the York Oyster house,  which is right by the Fairgrounds?  It was friday morning and I was well "gassed" by the smell.
