I know. They'd be using the old SP tracks that run over the I-10 west of Rancho and join the ATSF/UP tracks near Devore. There's almost no way they'd be able to make the turn at the Colton diamond (now a flyover).

By the way, do you guys ever run on that route? As I recall, they had a connection to the Cajon tracks somewhere near the summit.

They are NOT even crossing over at Devore this time, they are going all the way to the top on the old SP line and cut over at Silverwood. The Canyon siding is the first siding west of Summit, so just before they get to the top, they will inspect it in the siding.

Yes my crew is all qualified on the Mojave Sub. When they tore out the diamond, and realigned the transfer track under the new flyover, we had to go that way for almost a month. Every once in awhile we still go that way if our hill is a mess, but it's usually a bigger mess on the Mojave Sub with just the single track and 3 sidings. We prefer to go that way though because it's a extra day's pay for running off our assigned territory

Reportedly, the 4-8-8-4 4014 has already been "renumbered" within the Union Pacific system. Yesterday, I think. She is now OFFICIALLY "UPP4014", i.e. Union Pacific Passenger 4014". The diesel locomotive stays "UP4014".

So the assistant editor of Trains is the one doing the live stream "reporting"?? On monday they were setup on hill 285?? and he was describing the consist which was fine until he got to the 6 empty flatcars and he said something like "I don't know what that's about"??

And he's the assistant editor??!!

I quit reading Trains when they ran that article titled "Big Boy Big Mistake".
