Why would they? Am I missing something, because the news stories seem to say that the UP prevailed, so why would they fire Ed at all?

Maybe as a result of all the trouble he has caused, and damage to equipment, not to mention more than a 200% turnover of his personnel?

SSW and MP came to, or close to Memphis.  Maybe they will send the SP and/or the MoPac Heritage units.  Then again, maybe not!

Both lines worked Memphis.

Ha that is funny, any time the 844 is mentioned - Ed is getting fired!

Who cares. Whats that got to do with the 844 coming to Memphis?!

That's on me. And, I'm sorry.

I was cracking on the anti-Dickens experts. I should have kept my mouth shut.

I certainly don't want any topic threads to devolve into the anti-UP Steam circus that was 844, here on the forum.

Anyway, very cool for 844! I'm eagerly looking forward to following the 4014 project. And, will probably make my first-ever "railfan" trip to see her run somewhere.

Er, this I thought was a thread about 844's upcoming outing.  Maybe a different thread for the legal stuff?

It was until links about the lawsuit were posted - any surprise about what would happen next?    Perhaps the brakes could be thrown early on this go-around and the thread be put to rest before the excrement hits the whirling blades?

Well, that's too bad about the timing. One week too early for me - will be in Memphis the following weekend. It would have been way cool to see 844 crossing the Frisco RR bridge across the Mississippi. The new Big River Crossing is a bike/pedestrian addition to the bridge, which runs right next to the RR track, so the view will be terrific. There should be some spectacular pictures that will show up somewhere, I assume Trains magazine, among others. The auto bridge runs on the south side of the railroad bridge, right next to it, and the train viewing from there is very good as well.

Did anyone else notice the old 4-way traffic light sitting on top of an old railroad signal mast, on the far right side, in the picture above titled "MOPAC in Memphis"?  What's that all about?

Chuck

I believe that is for the vehicles crossing the diamond... ?

Capture 33

Note the switch tender house.  Cheap localized control?

I don't know.  There looks to be dirt made into a rudimentary grade crossing right at the front of the MoPac locomotive, but nothing else that is really built up enough for a vehicle to cross those tracks.  I'm thinking a traffic signal converted or used for the trains themselves?

It may be a dumb question, but is this an excursion (where one can ride) or is this a "watch her run by" trip for the 844.  I looked on the website and still not sure.

The Union Pacific has not operated any true "excursions" for quite some years, outside of the annual Cheyenne Frontier Days Special between Denver and Cheyenne.  They may have a limited number of "invited guests" or employees on board, however. In order for an excursion to be operated, a sponsoring organization would have to "rent the train" and then that organization could/would sell the tickets to the public.

You didn't get a call or text from Union Pacific you got one from Twitter.  You have Twitter notifications set up to notify you when somebody tweets or mentions you. That's what UP did by responding to your question (which they do all the time) so Twitter notified you, same thing that would happen on Facebook so it's really nothing special
