Hi have any of you had your old TMCC Pulmor Locos upgraded to a can motor and speed control? If so do you like the results.

A very good question for those of us who appreciate some of the benefits that can motors bring.

It depends. I've seen some that worked out great. I've also seen a couple that the gear ratio was so tall that speed control was pretty impossible.
You need to be specific about which one you want to convert.
Also, by the time you do the motor conversion and then buy the new electronics for cruise, etc. you can probably just buy a new Legacy locomotive and get all that and more.

I have a few that still have pulmor motors in them and running AC commander from ERR
with the AC commander in them most run very well and slow. As John said there are some you can put a DC motor in and it will still run fast. I had this trouble with one of my steam engines that was early scale version. I Had to regear it to run slower and smother. Only you can figure wether want to put the money in to it.
Harry, yours is one of the two I was talking about. I also had a guy with a semi-scale that got the DC motor, but it was like a jackrabbit starting, and there really was no good fix for it.
Running those TMCC pullmnor engines with a Legacy remote really helps those jackrabbit starts. Set the momentum higher really helps. Have the commodore Vanderbilt from 1996 that runs "just OK" with a cab-1 but with a cab-2-a nice difference in operation.
I agree Ted, I'd keep them with the AC motor and just run them.

I only have one such engine, the 6-28411 Army missile firing unit. This has a really crude drive mechanism in which the motor and drive gears kind of dangle from the body shell. Anyway, I got it out recently to run under a CAB-2 for the first time and it made wild jackrabbit starts. Changing the momentum setting made no difference but once I set the stall voltage it ran reasonably smoothly although the medium speed range is limited. Must be the nature of the beast.
I have thought about an AC Commander conversion or pulling the Pullmor out but there's a limitation on space as well as my technical ability.
I really like my Commadore Vandy's I have 2 and the Yellow Belly Hundson as well as a another Pulmor Hudson. I would only upgrade the motors if I added speed control. i might just put the money into a Legacy engine instead. I do have some grades on my layout and you get spoiled with speed control.
All my other engines have speed control.
