I live in Sacramento, I was just there... nothing really jumped out at me at all.  Most of it was well used stuff and not much in the way of engines at all.  Boxes and boxes of TTOS cars of course.  The prices were too high for the condition of the items.  A lot of items were missing parts.  It's gonna be a tough sell. I walked away empty handed.

Wow, that's a great Find, the Video showing Old Lionel and other makes of Toy Trains and Things.  Marx items, and lots of boxed like new items, however, I agree with others above, street Value has changed do to current demand.  If this Collection had been offered 6 to 10 years ago, it would have been a different Bonanza... Today, with all the Bells and Whistles and Realistic Modern Electronics, and Yes, the Passing of the Older Collector, Values have Changed...I sincerely hope this collection brings good money for those that are recipient.  Thank you for this thread, all Trains are Fun, no matter the value....Happy Railroading.

Here we go again. Typical daughter/son of collector inherited a bunch of common, beat up stuff, and they think it's a gold mine.  And their delusions are fueled by a TV story promoting their priceless treasure. After all, anything that's Lionel, it's worth thousands, right?  So here we go. They'll wear themselves out asking 10x what it's worth. There will be much shock, and denial before they ultimately dump it on Ebay for what it's really worth at market value.

So I went today and while the previous posters are correct, a LOT of stuff, and I do mean a LOT, but either most of the good stuff went yesterday morning or they did not put a lot out. They will be putting more stuff out next week. I'll be back. I did pick up some good items that I wanted though, a U.P. U50C never opened, box in excellent shape for $250, I always wanted that to compliment my DD40AX, two NYC cabooses NYC and B&A for $50 total, a Niagara Locomotive for $200 in L/N condition, no box, and I picked up a bunch of O scale track, it was in excellent condition, way better than what is offered at these train shows at $1.00 a piece. They had a DD40AX for sale at $200, brand new in box, I may pick up a second one to compliment my first one if its still around next week. I also picked up a box of HO scale track just to dabble in it, for next to nothing. I'll pick up some locos and cars and see if I'm interested enough to start collecting and running HO and put my O scale on display. I still need my train fix. LOL!  They have two boxes of Gargaves track that I might pick up next week as long as it's reasonable and I'll get rid of my Fastrack stuff. I'll probably go back next week. Looks like this guy was really a pack-rat but when they say warehouse they really mean warehouse. I'll tell you that it was way better then most of the train shows I've been to around here.

The "have a warehouse" part is definitely correct!! LOL!! But a lot of this stuff was bought in bulk. As I went through boxes and boxes of stuff, I found bulk items. Example, one box I found was full of Lionel flatcar logs, at first I thought I only found one package, then as I went through it was a whole case! At the bottom of some of the boxes with track, there was modeling plaster and all the modeling stuff for a layout, so this wasn't only trains, he just bought everything. I have to admit it was very interesting going through box after box of stuff and see what I could find. The estate people went through all this stuff supposedly but since many of them were just volunteers many of them got a life long class on the introduction of model trains in a week! This was the treasure hunt for me.  You just never knew what you'd find. That's what made it so interesting, to see what someone else collected and try to figure out how he thought and why. Some of the items I was amazed at. For me it was pretty cool! The best part was I was able to touch everything, unlike at shows where you really don't want too, and I get that, but this for me was really cool. I didn't realize it, but I spent almost 5 hours there going through box after box after box and I met a lot of friendly and interesting people, whom I'd like to stay in touch with.  He also collected a lot of Christmas stuff, another one of my wife and myself favorite hobbies! Trains and Christmas, it doesn't get any better than that! But the room for this stuff in my house is dwindling, Hmmmm I wonder how much rent is for a warehouse these days. . .
