I just used powders and a brush...im wet behind the ears and still very new to weathering. No speacial tools, or tricks. Dab of powder here a brush there.  I used the colors: dingy grey, dirty brown, and highlight white. For the load, I measured the inside diameter of the car. I Cut an insert out of cardboard. I stuffed the cardboard down in the top of the car about an inch below the rim, then poured an even load of (chic grit) across the top until it suffiently covered the cardboard.
