I suggest you call Weaver and ask them about the gray hopper. They are great to deal with. It could of been a custom run for Andy Petersen, Bekada, Frank's Roundhouse or maybe Bobby Salerno. I remember the car, but I can not remember who it was made for. Both of those hoppers are very nice.

I can't be sure but I believe Weaver was also making cars for company called Bev Bel. I think they were located in New Jersey.

I do not know of Weaver Models' listings, but the link I'm posting might help, or cause confusion, regarding color paint scheme changes in correlation to dates of changes, if, possible to be seen in some of the photos.

All I can see are the 'NEW' and 'BLT' dates of '8-65.'
As, for the change in color paint scheme, there might be a 'Rebuilt,' or a 'Repack' date, which might justify the color change?

This might take some work to figure out. Looking at RRpicture archieves website the cars with the closest road number to these were gray rib side PS types instead of ACF centerflows. Maybe Weaver just pulled numbers and paint schemes out of thin air or perhaps there was an NYC great renumbering at some point? ......DaveB
Spoke with Weaver this morning. Unfortunately, Joe couldn't remember who the car was painted for.
I was checking a auction website tonight and I found a listing for the gray New York Central hopper. The one on the website was catalog as number U1703 4-Bay Centerflow Hopper NYC car #892183. I also spoke with Petersen Supply Co. tonight and they think Weaver did a gray one in 1997 and sold it themselves.

I have a gray Weaver NYC hopper that appears to be identical to yours but with road number 885970. I could be wrong, but I think I got it in the late 80s. The box is 2 pieces (a bottom and a lid). A sticker on one end of the lid says special edition series with check boxes for 12 railroads in the series and 3 car numbers for each railroad. The bottom of the sticker says RGS CO, Scranton, PA.

I believe the lettering on the box is CFH which stands for centerflow hopper. Also, I believe Bobby Salerno had his own pad printer. Therefore, he could purchase blank bodies from Weaver and paint them himself.
Jim – I’m pretty sure the ones I have (NYC and Conrail) were made and painted by Weaver for RGS. They both came in Weaver boxes and the NYC looks identical (besides the road number) to a number of others I have seen. I have bought stuff from RGS more recently that were painted by RGS and came in a RGS box.
