QUESTION:  I've been able to obtain some virtually new Weaver rolling stock at rock-bottom prices/dirt cheap but they come with plastic couplers - some of which barely operate.  Short of totally replacing the trucks and couplers with die cast at $20 a pop per car, any tips on improving the operation of the plastic couplers will be most sincerely appreciated.

Thanks!

If you don't need them to operate? just wrap a thin wire or twist tie around the shank to keep them closed. Did your rolling stock also come with the Delrin wheels (plastic) ?

Just my opinion but, I believe you will have more trouble in the long run with the plastic (delrin?) trucks, as the "metal" wheels that come in those plastic trucks are too thick. Yes, those plastic couplers tend to open at will, and the only way to keep them closed is constantly fiddling with the metal spring.

Although expensive, up-grading to the latest Weaver die cast metal trucks AND couplers will solve your issues, plus add weight to the cars.

I really don't know what to do to make them operate, I change all mine to Kadee's. If you have any with the Delrin wheels or purchase more Weaver with the Delrin wheels let me know and I will trade you Weaver metal wheels for your Weaver Delrin wheels.

Always looking for the Delrin wheels (3-rail).

I used Super Glue until all cars were re-retrofitted with spring die-cast T&C.

It was mainly a height issue matching to other cars vs. opening up on long trains.

I pass up all those types of cars on ebay.

Last search of die-cast T&C sets yielded nothing. I think we have another shortage again. None to be found at my (go to) suppliers.
