It's been a while since I posted anything on this thread. I have completed a great deal of my layout that I started back in April. There is a lot of added detail that I plan to add over time. This picture is of WMSR 734 pulling a dusk passenger excursion on rails on the outskirts of Pittsburgh. A local freight train can be seen in the distance conquering the 4% grade up into the hills. Great pictures from everyone so far!image

WM COAL TRAIN DK [19)

Great photos everyone!  They are all great, but I want to call out special attention to the Western Maryland and B&O fans!  My two favorites!

Johnny, Lots of great WM action!!

Western Maryland and B&O, Great!!  Also, I do want to get one of those Virginian Train Masters someday!

Marc, you know full well I would like the photos of your WM Consolidation 734!!  My consolidation is great too!!!

SIRT, More Western Maryland and B&O getting down and dirty!  Just like the prototype!

Bill, What's not to like about a name B&OBILL, and grandsons and trains!!

Glad you like the photos Mark! You might recognize the passenger cars behind 734.

Tackindy, cool looking blue water in your first picture with the float plane , what material did you use.

Jack

That is nothing but foam board that I jabbed/pulled with a flathead screwdriver to create "choppy water".  I painted it blue and then ran a brush with just a bit of white paint on it just over the peaks to make the whitecaps.  I then used some gloss to try a and make it shiny.  I'm still not sure how I feel about it but it did come out neat.  The best part about this method I came up with (I'm sure it's been done before) is that you can cut out and partially sink your boats or whatever to give a better appearance of them being "IN" the water instead of on top of it.

Marc,

Well I didn't notice those familiar cars in the background!  Thanks for pointing them out!  I hope you like them!

After 18 months of waiting it's finally here and after removing from the box I heard something rattling inside and one of the engineer figures is loose so I'm going to have to figure out how to take it apart to re-adh20160827_13035220160827_130404ere the figure

Very Happy today!! I took it apart (6 screws instead of 4) and carefully removed shell. It was not just the figure, it was the figure and the seat that had to be glued again on the inside of the shell. Contacted MTH and they recommended super or crazy glue. It was difficult as all of the wiring was very short and hard to get distance between shell and chassis. Luckily,  with my extra long tweezers and some patience, it worked out. Put on the test track after and ran like a top.
