Love that "Shooting Stand" Where'd you take that photo? Great "borrowed view" background.

Thanks, Matt:

I can't take credit for that photo!  I bought it from a fellow TCA'er at a local show this past Fall.  He took this photo of a pond near his home up here in New England, and then printed it out and attached it to a foam-core board.  He said he used it at one time as a back-drop on one corner of his layout.

When I saw it for sale at the show I knew right away I had to have it as I was already thinking about building a shooting stand for my train photography.  Besides, autumn is my favorite season!  I built the diorama in an attempt to match the look of the back-drop...

That was some great photography and setting of the backdrop. The mono-optic view of the camera gave no hint that it was a photographic backdrop. Gives me an idea on how I should build one. Thanks.

Since I run only command control on the permanent layout, each year on the Christmas layout I enjoy running postwar sets.  I've run the Golden Anniversary passenger set many times, but for some reason, have not run the freight set.  So, this year, I thought I would run both.  Merry 1950!

I love this engine! Great detail, awesome sounds and quality, just a great engine overall. If you're considering getting one, get it. It is well worth the price. Now all I am missing is the Dash 8, SD80MAC, and SD45.

Who is the maker of that fine looking locomotive?

Ron....just saw your question about the GoPro camera software and whether it supports mac.  I think it does but I would go to their website and check it out.  I was really looking forward to using the camera but their editing software would have required me to chunk my current media center xp version, which I really like.  I could have kept the camera and still used it but the updates, etc. would have had to be done manually and it was a "process" to say the least.  Lots of folks online unhappy with some of the glitches....so rather than be frustrated, I took it back.  I do have other equipment that works but the smallness of the GoPro was the most attractive feature to me.  Thought it would be great to use in a lot of places on the layout...

Some random shots around the layout. Enjoy!

Great looking layout and an excellent blending of scale hi-rail scenes and PW LIONEL accessories.

Also, gotta like work done by anyone whose signature includes "seize the beer" in Latin, no less.

Some Santa Fe and Western Pacific action on my movie theater layout tonight. I received the Lionel WP F3's from 2004 as a Christmas gift from my parents. I also ordered a B unit which arrived today to make a full ABA set. Quite a stunning paint scheme. I also received the news this evening that there have been several requests to leave the layout up through January, and possibly into the beginning of February for various events occurring at the theater.

Santa Fe 3751 meets up with WP 801

Santa Fe FT 158 passing WP 801

USMC 1775 waits with a Toys for Tots carload of Christmas gifts.

3751 belongs to a friend (Forum member Mark Bee) that helped with the construction and operations of the layout.

Here are some photos of a pair of Williams PRR E-7's that I've been upgrading.  First, I added TMCC command control (using ERR components).  I also obtained a motorizing kit, and motorized and installed TMCC in the dummy B unit (not shown) so the consist could be used to pull long passenger trains.  The next step was to add the roof antennas to the A units, install scale size fuel tanks, nose lift rings, and place a filler to close the gap between the pilot and the frame.  Next, the pilots will be attached to the frame so they do not swivel which is not necessary as the curves on my layout are quite wide.  Once this is done, the units will be weathered.  The Mars light is not prototypical for the Pennsy, but I decided to leave the flashing light circuit in place.

Must ask, with an ABA measuring about 54", what constitute "long passenger trains?  Likewise, what radii are you using that you have fixed trucks?  Are there photos or track plans of your layout?  Lastly, which vendors did you use for the add-on parts?

Beautiful AA's grandly presented; thanks for sharing.

Carl,

In answer to your questions:

1. About 8 21 inch K-Line passenger cars and 6 headend cars

2. Minimum radius is about 54" , i.e.,"O-108"

3. For a track plan, see the feature article of the November issue of the other mag

4. Roof antennas and lift rings are from Bowser (Cal-Scale). Fuel tanks and pilot gap fillers are scratchbuilt out of .125" styrene.

Neal,

Thanks for the comprehensive reply.

Took a quick look on the net and found a prototype example; you've done exceptionally well to present it with your detailed modeling:

Like that turnout. Who made it?

Thanks Matt.

Going back to the wall (where the phony porthole is), and starting with the closest turnout, there is a R/H #8, and 2 #8 3-ways.  (The one closest to the porthole is harder to see.)  Those 3 turnouts were made by Brad Strong of Signature Switch.  He does very nice work, especially on non standard turnouts.  http://signatureswitchco.com

It is an MTH Premier SD50.
