LOL.  The Marlin, yes!  How about the Pacer.  Not quite the car I would think would be called Pacer.  My friend had a 65 Rambler in high school.  It was wheels, what can I say.

 

I sure hope no one was hurt or not much damaged in the fire, but you made a good haul.

Back in the 1970's, I hit a car on this crossing.  Well, just off of the crossing.  A drunk got off the crossing onto the South Main Track (the track occupied by the train in the photo) after he ran around the gates, going too fast from left to right in your photos.  The gates were down for an eastbound UP on the North (left-hand) Track, pulled by DDA40X units.  Well, that's what the drunk thought, anyway.  They were actually down for the UP that he could see AND for yours truly's train, a westbound Santa Fe, which was making 30 MPH down hill on a 2.2% grade, just around the curve and out of sight.  The drunk, who was the car's only occupant, fled the car and left his driver's side door open.  The UPRR train would otherwise have missed the car, however, it took off the open door.  The Engineer on the UP saw the reflection of our headlight as we approached the curve and called us on the radio, but it was too late.  We came around the curve and struck the big Buick, after which it got ground to pieces between the two trains while we came to a stop.

Tom interesting story. Do you know if the drunk got in a trouble for leaving his car on the tracks?

He departed the site in the back seat of a California Highway Patrol cruiser, and I presume that they put him in the custody of the San Bernardino County Sheriff.
