Actually that line begins in Big Pool, MD and runs through Hagerstown, interchanges with Maryland Midland at High Field and Emory Grove, and goes on to Baltimore.  By far the biggest chunk of WM main still in use by a Class 1.

BTW, traffic on the line has picked up, particularly west of High Field, with the opening of the CSX container terminal in Greencastle, PA.

Is the "Dutch Line" still in use?

Yes and yes.

The bridge sees interchange traffic for Maryland Midland at Emory Grove and a few customers up towards the Hanover/York area.  I believe that most of the action is at night.

The old "Dutch Line" is what I was referring to earlier -- running from High Field to Gettysburg, over to York/Hanover, and down to Emory Grove where it meets the old WM main.  The line sees a few locals a week -- the east end is served out of Baltimore and the west end is served out of Hagerstown.

Thanks.   It's good to hear that both lines are still in use.Originally Posted by poppyl:
