The nasty landslide near switch number nine has been repaired.

A lot of brush and trees were removed to make room for repair, and has resulted in the views

included in the photos here. One can only hope one day we will see the 1309 sweeping around here

in grand fashion.

The photos.

Mike, it was taken care of by mine remediation funds, somewhere in the neighborhood of $250,000, as far as I know. There is, however, another slide, or slip, just above Woodcock Hollow, a place where the Western Maryland used to have problems. It's in the process of checking what needs to be done, ect. So the Scenic is still not able to go to Frostburg.

Ed, thanks for the pics, did you walk or bike back there?
This has real potential for a runby area, with angles on both sides of the track.
Looking at this photo; the area along the extreme right was the loading tipple of Consol mine #9 (1900-1931).
There was a long gob (culm) pile embankment along the tracks, the mine mouth was higher up the hill farther to the right.
The pic of the Woodcock Hollow slide was posted on The GAP Trail facebook back in April.
Ed, keep checking mid-week photos for more of my Sand Patch trip.5

I liked the photos you posted with your new D7000. A great camera for the money, and all I need!

Yes, I walked from the trailhead at Frostburg, slowly! It was great and the weather was perfect.

I have a new railfan tool also, an automobile! we only had one, and the wife needed it for work.

So now I can go any time, providing I've gas money, and grab some photos. I have been impressed with the

new leadership at the Scenic RR.  If it is nice today, I may drive to Woodcock and check that slide out.
