I've wanted to upgrade the pantographs on some Williams Metroliner MU's.

Someone has suggested MTH or AtlasO AEM7 pantographs, and may have actually used them in a project.

I know that European tinplate manufacturer Merkur has two styles of pantograph in their catalog, but getting ahold of some here in the US may a bit of a challenge (I'm not aware of any US-based distributor/s). Plus it's still an unknown if their attachment layout is in any way compatible with the Williams one.

There's always scratchbuilding in brass, but that takes actual skill, and I've only actually built some crude inboard-bearing trucks for first-gen Williams Amfleets. (plus securing a supply of adequate springs could be challenging)

I have been using Precision Scale pantographs.  No garish  toy here, they really look like the real thing.

Fantastic upgrade.

Those are nice; I tend to use the older ones from IMP that have the porcelain insulators that they sold for all those boxcabs years ago.  Also have a few sets from Overland that I picked up very cheap once upon a time -- got almost all that I use off eBay as well back when they were both plentiful and cheap!

One specific note regarding Pantographs :

IF you actually use the Pantograph for drawing power from the overhead wire, do what all of us at the Eastbay Model Engineers Society did many years ago...  Fasten the Pantograph to the car roof with tiny "dress snaps"..  This way, if the Pantograph snags something in your wire work it doesn't like, your wire will NOT get torn apart and ruined !    Instead, the Pantograph will get knocked off the car onto the layout !   Think about it !!
