What Color is your Tinplate Room?

Mine is paneled. I always felt wood offsets the tinplate colors nicely.

Sky blue with white ceiling.  But the two walls behind the layout are lined with floor to ceiling train shelves painted off white and each have a couple windows. 

The other two walls are covered with stereos and speakers.

Choo Choo

A very pale moss green. Avoid semi-gloss paint if you can. Light reflection is very hard on the eyes.

I'd say my dungeon is a light blue. I hope to be installing additional lights soon, and when I get a few more little projects done some fresh paint.

I think I like Terry's color scheme the best.

Trains are very colorful to begin with so any wall color is just fine so long as its WHITE!

Mine is knotty pine with a white drop ceiling.

A pinkish beige color that was on the wall when I converted the room to trains. I liked the color so saw no reason to repaint. I have photos but none shows the color accurately, so I won't post. 

"Splashes of Tinplate"  LOL  That's like saying I went over Niagara Falls in an inner tube and got splashed.  Man, that's a FLOOD of Tinplate!  Fantastic!

I would go with white. Let the tinplate colors be the wall paper. It really makes the trains stand out.

Neutral colors IMO are best for showing off the bright colors of tinplate trains. We went with Sherwin Williams White Duck on the walls and flat white ceiling paint. Good luck!

The same color as my Postwar Room (and the living room), as they are all the same room. LOL

Basic white. No shelves on the walls yet, but I did get the OK to put up a few. I think my better half is tired of the over flow sitting in her book case! 

Wow! That is an awesome train room. I love that your layout looks like a piece of furniture! Very nicely done.

Mine is "old workshop."  It's a hard color to match. 

Great rooms Arno! White definitely makes the colors pop-out more. These look like a museum!!

I also would suggest spreading a collection out up a bit around the house. Making the collection blend in more with your home decor. Of course, this comes from my wide interest in vintage toys in general... not just trains.

I love the look you accomplish with your toys and trains. Fantastic displays. I would do that in a heartbeat, but would need quite a large abode to pull it off! I have, in the past, done some interaction in the living portion of the house. But since getting a train room that practice has subsided. With our recent move, that train room is no more and I have to do it all over again. Fun!

Where I have my trains the room is painted orange. Since that's the color my parents painted the rec room down in the basement. The orange looks cool

Add some black accents and, it's Halloween. 

My tinplate room (aka. the basement) is a bit of a work in progress.  I'm working on making a retro style "Metropolis" background, reminiscent to the artwork found in 1930's pulp comics.

Or put a maroon stripe down the middle and it's Milwaukee Road.

It's always great to see Joe's trainroom, and I thoroughly enjoyed OGR's article about Joe's layout.  My train room has virtually the identical paneling, and I am in the process of a complete rebuild to make the layout more accessible from all sides.  I plan to install Glenn Snyder shelves on the walls to simplify moving trains to and from the layout.

   White always White! No matter how big or small.  The size has varied thru the years depending on our Christmas commitments, however the room color is always white.
