What Controller to use w/DC train

A DC locomotive would probably require something like an HO power pack.  However, the 4V engine confuses me, that's pretty low voltage.  Are you sure that's the voltage maximum?

Would what you have be something like this?

I was looking at a Marx Power Pack actually... with DC output. I figured I could run my train off that.

My loco looks more like this. I can't find much information on this model but the seller told me it was 4 volt.

I'll be somewhat surprised if it's 4 volt, but you can try a low voltage on it and see if it runs.

It's ridiculously low.. I agree. But I'll bet its' between 4-14v DC.

Would a Marx HO Power Pack (*model 6049) work for me then? I don't want to "blow out" the motor on first try.. (haha) Its a really nice train.

I'd just start with a really low DC voltage and see what you get. 

For what it's worth the MTH DC Commander is what I use for DC trains I run. It has an advantage that it has a digital readout for volts and amps.

That only works if you have a DC Commander.   You can do it with a bench power supply with meters as well.

Yea.. the mth looks a little much for what I need. I just it to forward/reverse.

I ll give a Marx HO Powerpack a try I think. Hope it runs the thing ok.

Just start out at low throttle until you determine what voltage it requires.
