What Did You Buy At York? Good Deals, Unusual Things, . . .

The real prize was a near mint in the box 1954 Postwar 1515WS set. I purchased this from the former owner of Catoctin Mountain Trains. It appears to have only been test run. Only half of the original smoke pellets have been used. There is no rust and there wasn't a speck of grease on the greats when I opened it this morning. It is as pristine as you can get. I have everything except the track.

Huge really big fun with my train buddies buying and selling. Sold more than I bought which is good since I just started my layout. Right out of the gate found some near new gargraves 072 track that is essential for pressing on with development for a super price no less. I'll need more luck like that. In a effort to stop buying rolling stock, started buying cars n trucks for the layout. Picked up railroad item for basement decoration. Saw a sunset 3Rd rail on Thursday for a good price and bought it Saturday for an even better price. Just too much fun.

The booth manned by the guys from Diecast Direct has been a nice addition to the Orange Hall for the past few years. They are located across from the Lionel booth. They carry all price ranges, including upper end American Excellence. This time I only bought 3 "S" size travel trailers for $7. each. I already have over 150 "pricey" 1:43 cars.

Not related to purchase, but somewhat unusual....    A year or so ago, the other magazine had an article about a guy and his layout. The name and bio details were a bit too intriguing for me, since I grew up about 2 blocks from a guy who fit his description, and went all thru K-12 with him. Hadn't seen him since HS graduation in 1972. So, on a hunch, I contacted the editor of the mag, and he forwarded my email to the author. Yup - he was the guy.  This was several months ago, and we'd email about 2-3 times just catching up.

So I asked the question - yes, he was going to be at York, so we met and spent several hours walking the halls and just catching up. 45 years later.  It was great catching up on the old home town, teachers, life paths, etc.  THIS was the highlight of my Spring York 2017.
