I bought these Lionel Legacy Santa Fe E8's from Charlie Nassau, a big bottle of Mega-Steam "coal fired steamer" from Jeb, some people figures, and a baker's dozen of assorted Maple Donuts on the way home, for the family.
Had a great time seeing everyone, enjoyed the fine weather, and got some great deals too!

Arrived Wednesday afternoon in our RV with our dogs and cat.
First went to Purple Hall, and bought LEDs from Lights4models (thanks John) to do some more lighting of cars. Went back Sat for more lights for model of father-in-law's Cessna.
Bought Lionel NYC S-2 from Pete Costa
Found an RTP (Research Triangle Park) TCA car in Blue Hall. Wife picked that out; house is near RTP.
Visited Korber Models booth (and Alex & Dina M) twice; once for some building flats, then again with the missus for more building flats, white mortar paste and lights. Great time talking with Alex, Dina, Eliot Scher, Peter Condro.

Got my York boxcar, natch.
Went over to RPO Trains, and after poring over their passenger car offerings, elected to pick up these three baggage cars:
These three are the beginnings of my Amtrak Exhibit Train. RPO says he has the Amfleet food-service car at his storage, if I can get one of them that will become the gift-shop car, but no ribbed sleepers (needed as the crew car) were available to be had. So if anyone out there has a (all/mostly silver, no particular roadname) Premier ribbed sleeper they're looking to unload, look me up.
Toward the end of my day (since I came on the York charter bus departing at 5:20) I picked up these two monster 86-foot eight-door boxcars, affectionately nicknamed "layout shrinkers". The Chessie touched off an epic room-cleaning effort spawned by a stray bearing cap that escaped me twice while attempting to re-install it. Ironically it wasn't the one that was binding up that particular wheelset. It wound up something like five feet from where I dropped it (and under the bed to boot)
Lastly, I got a couple of dozen diesel traction tires and a flashing LED light that will see some use on my double-trailer luggage for visibility during convention trips

Top price I saw was $75 @ Nicholas Smith. Lowest was Charles Ro at $66, and in the middle was Grzybowski's at $70. By the time I went to buy, the middle option was pretty much it (unless you wanted the C&NW). I was hoping to find a Rock Island ("Route Rock") like the one on Lionel's display layout (a staffer said that one had shipped), but whatever made it to the show sold before I either got there or started looking.

This year proved somewhat of an oddity. Left the Fairgrounds without a powered unit, for the first time ever....BUT with four dummies in tow. Nothing planned, just worked out that way. A York experience a bit out of the ordinary.
I bought four items. I bought an ambulance and police car with the flashing LEDs. Very impressive. I was told that they will outlive me. I also bought 150 scale feet of impressive factory backdrop. And, finally - you can see it on the 0-27 forum, a steam engine tea pot for my wife. Had a GREAT time. Cannot wait to go back. Thought $400 in my pocket would be enough. It is NOT. But I loved it.
yes. some impressive cars there. the long boxcars are especially interesting

I picked up a beautiful MTH DAP KCS diesel set with all 9 cars. I will keep the locomotive and will be selling all 9 KCS passenger cars on this forum in a bit. I spent time in the MTH parts booth replenishing some stock. Many odd cars and a NIB Williams 6 car set of 21 inch Bi-Level Amtrak passenger cars. Lots of books, electrical parts, MTH York cars, and a few Williams diesels that a friend wanted. I also dropped an order with Mike Wolf.

Did the dummies have names or were they engines?

I bought this Proto 2 Blue Streak set from the Underground Railroad Shoppe in Orange Hall. I also got the MTHRRC Railroad crossing boxcar (LED's). The 35th MTH anniversary standard gauge boxcar. Two Polar railroad cars from Charles Ro. A N&W boxcar and York car from MTH. Smoke fluid from J.T. Megasteam. A replacement RS-3 Interstate for the one damaged in a mishap from Trainworld.

Got this barely used MTH 400e black and copper PS1 engine, tender and 4 200 series freight cars . Also, found a really nice 2620 searchlight car and 2660 crane for my MTH 261/269e set that I got from Mr. Muffins, who are some really nice folks. Now I gotta save up for October !

I had a rough time moving around the Meet because of a left knee injury I've been nursing since the East coast January Blizzard. I had missed the Allentown Meet and a couple local Greenberg's shows since then, but I wasn't missing York! I tried walking around the Orange Hall on Thursday but after a short time the pain in my knee was too much. Along with the pain it felt like I had a cinder block tied to my leg. I only got through about ⅓ of the hall that day so I didn't see much.
However, never to be deterred I brought my wife's scooter she used before her knee replacements, just in case I needed it. Well, I needed it on Friday and Saturday and had a lot more fun! A special thanks to Scott Smith for giving me a boost up a curb on the way to the Friday OGR presentations. Thanks Scott! So after enduring the pain this long I made an appointment for an MRI on my knee on Monday. I want to be back to normal (what ever that is for me) by October's Meet!

Picked up track only this year as I'm getting ready to start a new layout. 32 PCs. of 0-72 postwar original track and 4 -14 1/2" long straights for $50 in great condition. Never knew Lionel made that size straigts. Any info on what years they made them?
Very interesting replies. Almost no high end modern steam locomotive purchases. Is this sample representative of the York O Gauge market. Probably not but still fascinating information.

I find it interesting how orange hall related this Forum is. The only thing I bought in the orange hall were parts. There's not much in this thread about the member halls.

OK, I'll add one (sorry no pic at the moment, maybe later): I bought a K-Line 2 truck West Side Lumber Shay in the Red Hall from a member slightly down the adjacent aisle from my table. No coupler extension plates for use on O-31, but that doesn't bother me for the good price I got it for.
I liked this piece since the Lionel version I ordered (and refused delivery for) several years ago ended up with the paper stuck to the paint like many of those models did. This unit is far superior in that department, nearly flawless.

The 400e engine and 5 freight cars that I got, was from a member hall. Blue or silver, I can't remember, so much stuff. As was the O gauge crane car for the grandson. Don't think I bought anything from the orange halls, just looked... over and over again. First time to York, LOL
Nothing, since a pressing family health emergency prevented me from attending but since then have eaten quite substantially into the budget meant for York with numerous buys from forum members and pre-orders that have finally arrived.

Sadly, I think a lot of people overlook the member halls or just give them quick run-throughs because they are into modern/scale stuff and have a mistaken impression of the member halls contents in that regard. There is a lot of modern stuff in the member halls at great prices, but you will see people making statements to the effect that the member halls are just Postwar, Prewar, and other "old" stuff. I have lots of Atlas O Master Line cars (including reefers!) that I've picked up in the $30-$35 range in the member halls over the years -- you won't find thos prices in the dealer halls!
For me, the stuff I buy in the dealer halls are things like Miller Engineering signs, DVD's and Blu-Rays, smoke fluid, figures, tools and other things that I could get elsewhere, but buy at York to save a little on shipping. Since I support my LHS's, I rarely buy rolling stock or engines in the dealer halls unless it is something that I missed seeing when it was announced or catalogued, or is new old stock that was produced before I got back in the hobby.
While I love walking through the dealer halls, I have much more fun hunting in the member halls.

I always start in the member halls, usually not looking for more than one or two things. What surprises me are the things that I end up buying because they are such good deals. I bought 17 large passenger car incandescent light strips for $7.00. I stood and looked at them for a couple of minutes and thought of several things I could use them or the parts for. So I bought them and moved on. I wasn't looking for engine shells, but found 9 that I liked and they followed me home. One was a brand new Lionel SP Black Widow FM shell, so now one of my pw FMs is going to get more run time. 5 of the shells were postwar GP-9 and FMs that I might have someone custom paint or try it myself. At $4.00 a piece it's no great loss if anything goes wrong. I only found one of the two things I was really looking for at this York, but I got some great deals and had a great time. And I think that 9,952 other people had a good time also. Eddie, sorry you couldn't make it. See you in October.
