There are "steel" buffer panels on the front sides of this LaBelle D&RGW Oneida conversion of a combine to a gas electric.  I was using sheet styrene and punching rivet heads into it from the back.  I finally got back to doing some work on that last night, but I do not like the effect.  Think I will redo with rivet decals and thinner

styrene.  Also want a really good sealer for the wooden roof, although a thread running

on a traction model mentions that a canvas roof (no idea what prototype gas electric

had as a roof, but photo LOOKS as though it might be canvas....not sure what was

typiclal roof for an 1890's clerestory coach) eliminates the smooth finish problem.  Instructions, (I have reached the end), babble about painting model, but don't say ZIP about prototype color.  I think the Pre-WWII/Bumblebee era of Grande rolling stock was Pullman green, so that is my dartboard shot.

Sorry Spence, nothing much has moved in months. I haven't forgotten. All this wiring and switch work is going to pay off soon. Joe will be here this afternoon, and I hope to have the last section of the upper deck wired. It will still need to be powered up, but that will be quick. Then it will be time to clear and clean the tracks.

Carl  You can thank my Son for lighting a fire under my ***.  Since he moved out and moved back to Iowa I have been keeping busy with all the work around this house. And I am sure you know what I am talking about. Now remember I lost my right leg 4 years ago and I do it all by myself. It took me 2 months to complete the cleaning and the repainting of the breezeway. So now my Son is poping in some time Saturday or Sunday after his friends Wedding .  So we will wait for his reaction when he pops in.

So today I purchased a tool storage cabinet. So now its time to find them all and to organize them all. I have tools scattered all through out this house & garage. This will be  my 1st cabinet  I always kept all my tools in bags that went with me when I was an Electrician ( Low Voltage )  So now I don't need the bags. I also purchased a Craftsman Shop vac  so I can clean the floor. I may of let you all know that already.

O Gauge Railroading • Run 280 Oct. / Nov. 2015

The magazine came Sat. Aug. 29th

Today was a nice day, so I was out of the Train Room / Man Cave and reading OGR.

My favorite article is on page 35, MTH RailKing Imperial, PRR Decapod. A review by George Brown.

This is what I did to help out my layout, always on the hunt for steam power.

Check it out.

Took delivery of a Schylling Zeppelin Train on Saturday!

GEDC1696

Alas, no key, so I couldn't fire little Zeppo up.  Fortunately, a local clockmaker not only had a key that fit, it turned out to be a factory Schylling key which works perfectly!

As you can see, yon Zeppelin perambulates around the layout quite nicely!

I greatly fear I'm going to get into clockwork trains, now, too...

Ran trains as I dressed for work ... about 10 minutes.

The repairman called me last nite and let me know my MTH Western Maryland BL2 is ready for pick up.  It was great to hear the problem was somewhat minor and not a blown board ... which I originally thought it might be.  I'll pick her up this Friday after work.  It looks like I'll be running a BL2 with my new Western Maryland Premier passenger cars Labor Day weekend!  Great weekend for excursion trains running out of Patsburg!

Patrick,

That's great news that it was a minor problem to fix!  I like the BL-2, not one of the more popular diesel designs.  It will look good pulling your passenger cars.  I like Western Maryland.

I thought that's what a car was for?  To charge my "train battery"

I almost hate to admit it. But a train could easily end up camping with me too now..

Hey, what if it rains, and I'm stuck in the tent Abuse! That's what MPC is for

I finished a several-week software redesign of one end of my layout and placed an order with Ross for track and switches to support three new industrial spurs. They will support a planned on-line grain elevator, tank car facility of some type and a Lionel Gantry Crane that I bought NIB back in 2003 and recently discovered in the closet - still NIB.

Another part of the re-design includes a provision for a 28" turntable and supporting roundhouse facility. That will be a bit more of an undertaking and needs to wait for now. I just feel better knowing the location considerations and track plan changes are complete and ready when I am.

I agree Mark, the BL-2 is not one of the more popular designs, however, I too really like them.... and actually find the design to be very interesting.

I'm really looking forward to seeing WM BL2 number 81 pulling those 3 scale passenger cars.  IMHO the livery of the Western Maryland BL2 is probably the most unattractive of any of the prototype liveries, however, since I model Maryland railroads of the 1940-50s I'm happy to have the WM BL2 livery.  Someday I'll get an EMD BL-2 demonstrator, which has a very attractive and colorful livery.

Most of the evening was spent cutting, trimming, and attaching the trim around the

clerestory windows of this Oneida D&RGW gas electric.  I then experiemented with

using tissue paper for what looks like fine grained tar paper on the roof.  Too thin, it

tears.  May try typing paper.  Grain looks finer than really fine sandpaper.   Since no appliances, such as a bell came in the kit, I have that ordered, but will need to fabricate fuel tanks and other roof mounted items, AFTER I get a roofing material

selected.

Got my MTH Premier BL2 back from repair today.  I ran it on the layout but its still having problems ( a new set of problems though ). My repairman gave it a test run on his layout and it worked fine before I picked it up.   Just to make sure that it was not my track  causing the problem, I ran several of my MTH Proto 2 engines and none had a problem ... then I called the repairman to tell him what was happening with the loco.  He's coming out to my house this  week  and checking the loco out on my layout.  I'm sure he will be able to find  the problem and correct it.  My repairman is a great guy!  What repairman makes house calls?!

As I read this, I was thinking house calls too!  Just like the old doctor did when I was a boy and had the measles and then chicken pocks.  Your man will get to the bottom of it, just like the doctor did.

Yes Mark the doctor who made house calls ... days gone by for sure.  I remember the doctor coming to my house when I was a little boy too... the doc pulled out the needle to administer an  antibiotic ... as soon as I saw the needle I jumped out of my bed and ran like crazy out the back door of the house ... only to be captured by my Mom ... but only then could the doc put that needle in my butt .... ouch!!!!  Soon I was back up running on a full head of steam.

Yes my repairman will get to the bottom of whatever is going on with my BL2 for sure.  For one brief moment today ( Friday ) she was pulling those Western Maryland passenger cars and looked fabulous!  Looks like I will have to wait till next week before that happens .. but it will happen soon enough   Thanks Mark for your encouragement and reminding me of those house calls made by the doctor

Glad to send some encouragement, and reminder of the "good old days"

Mark: Your village looks GREAT! The streets are line neatly. The overall layout of the buildings and sidewalks is real good.

Thank you Randy!!
