I often wonder what will become of the hard find modern pieces. Will they surface somewhere or be buried with the owner.  The Weaver TOFU cars for example are newer issue but rare as hen's teeth these days.  Maybe a lot of these are just collecting dust and the owners just don't think about selling.  Just one example that comes to mind. 

3d Rail NYC Mercury Passenger cars.  But found plenty of things I was not looking for, such as an 8-car PRR Jeffersonian 21-inch set by K-Line. 

Almost didn't go, but was very glad I did.  Planned to spend just Friday morning, but spent all day there.

There was a choke point at registration; they seemed to have 10 times the number of volunteers directing people to parking as they did taking registrations.  They should double the registration area and staff.  But I found people to be very friendly, helpful, and enjoyed chatting for a while with random folks.  Learned a few things, and had a great time. 

Then enjoyed the 1:1 scale trains at Strasburg RR & the PRR Museum an hour west, not to mention the Strasburg Creamery and one of the best miniature golf courses ever.

K-Line Amtrak 21" Surfliner car set 

I've had numerous chances to buy this set over the years, but didn't have any real connection to them and there was always another train that had priority. But now that I'll be moving to the area they operate, I was on the hunt. 

Oh well, it was frustrating but I had fun seeing friends and trains in all the aisles. I may have to order the incorrect, shorter MTH set if I really want Surfliners. But they are nice looking cars.

I'm usually a Saturday only attendee but was able to go FRI this time.  They did not play "The National Anthem" for Friday's opening rather they played Lee Greenwood's patriotic "I'm proud to be an American."  Over the past 10 years I've heard the Lee Greenwood song as well as Kate Smith's "God Bless America" played to open the meet.  Sadly It's been a very long time since I heard the E.Div TCA play the United States of America national anthem (The Star-Spangled Banner) for the Saturday meet opening - (possibly post 9/11).

There are lots of things on my want list, and I did come home with one item from my list (not any of the above), so I was still happy with my hunting.

To clarify, in case I'm the only one that notices, many meet goers are so talking so loud they don't appear to be aware the Anthem is even being played.  Or... notice the many folks with their hats off covering their breast.  

I always start in the same place Thursday and I think it's worse the last couple years.  I hate being negative about anything at York.

Hi Marty, I'm not poking fun, nor am I being sarcastic when I ask this, please don't take it that way, I get the unrun part but mold free? I don't understand? Do you mean from possibly being stored in a damp environment?

When these were originally released, some of the foam was not cured before the engines were packed. Moisture ensued.  I actually ordered one and when it came into the LHS, because of reports on this forum, the shop opened their order of 4 engines.  All 4 engines had moisture, rust, corrosion, and visible mold on them and in them.  Needless to say I passed on that and the entire order was returned to Lionel.  Even as recent as about a month ago one showed up on Ebay with indications of mold.

Many folk's engines arrived fine, many did not.  I opted at the time not to try my luck and put my money towards a VL Big Boy.  I figure or hope that a pre-owned engine would most likely be operational and hopefully mold free.

Wow, that moisture deal is a kick in the pants, expensive mistake for sure. 

I had a thought as I was reading all these missed sales opportunities,  very few tables actually helped the crowd moving down the aisles to "see" what they had.  For example a few sellers put small pictures or small signs to identify what was for sale so it was just not the small print on the end of the box.  I remember walking past a number of tables with locos, and other boxes piled high.  there was no time and often no space in the aisle either to take the time required to look them over.  To keep people from having to kneel or crouch, blocking the aisle to read the end of the box, seems something like a small pictorial identifier would be worth taking the time to do, especially for higher ticket items. Otherwise no shot at an impulse purchase.  Just a thought!

The PRR museum is GREAT! Last time we were there my wife had to drag my son and I away from the G scale switching layout.

Good thing I had the car keys or we would have been walking back to Lancaster

On a related "mold" note - There also was a batch of Lionel Lionmaster Legacy PRR T-1's from that same time period that also had the foam/mold/rust issue.  I will add praise on how the Lionel Service Dept., specifically Mike Reagan, was very quick to act by providing free return shipping and a top notch T-1 replacement.

FWIW, Lionel and Mike did the same for the Turbines.
