What Locomotives Do You Find Ugly?

I am well aware that Tim is one of the younger people on the Forum, something to be fostered and encouraged, not dismissed. I hope he and you realize that my reply was tongue-in-cheek. Everyone is entitled to their opinion (even if it is wrong IMHO ). And as for age, I do not see that as having any bearing here. I may be turning 61 in a few weeks, but I grew up in Brooklyn, NY, so main line steam is something I have only seen in books, on video, or in museums.

I generally have no problems with the "younger set". That said, you may not have been aware of the continuing "history of negative posts" from our boy Tim, ever since he came here.

If you have the Railroading Merit Badge on that sash, I think you should give it back (just kidding). Let's face it, the S1 and T1 looked fast while standing still.

If not, I have one of those Railroading Merit Badges (circa 1970 edition) so maybe I offset SDIV Tim's vote???

Well HW, with all due respect, I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. While I disagree with Tim's opinion on Pennsy steamers, I did not take it as negative, but rather as an opinion, which is what the OP asked for. Based on the original question, "what locomotives do you find ugly", all direct responses to the question are, by default, negative. 

I have yet to hear an engineer say that an engine, steam or diesel-is pretty. I have heard them comment on pulling power, faster loading, cab noise and comfort so I guess looks are a very subjective thing.

In Diesel it would be BL 1

In Steam it would be Camelbacks

Looks like Alco hired some European designers for this one. Looks much better with a high short hood IMHO.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess... I think that looks super cool!  Based on that, and my dislike of the Big Boy, I obviously have serious issues!

Put me on the list, too, because, in all honesty, I can't warm up to the Big Boy's looks. Especially the model, the prototype looks a bit more balanced.  Whistles and multiple smokes do not make a model pretty.

Jim, as you know I'm not a bells and whistles and multiple smoke  units guy either. Just the old clangy postwar trains for me. But the real life Big Boy is a beautiful animal. 

On another note, I couldn't find your email in my computer. It's in there somewhere. Email me when you get the chance. There's an ad you may be interested in. A 2055 for $20. I have a million of them already. If it was local I would have just picked it up, but it's not.

I just saw the Pennsy  DD 1. Ugly but really cool. massive-built to work hard . Love it.

To me, 2nd generation and subsequent diesels are ugly boxes that all look the same.

Looks like the offspring of a 1950-1960 GMC truck and a center cab locomotive!

I've never found the GG1, Alco's PA, FA, and DL-109 that attractive. 

I do like the looks of the BL-2 and GP30.

Now, that is definitely a very unusual locomotive'.. Not sure if ugly should apply to the many 

others mentioned.  What is considered ugly, is actually what makes them beautiful.

I have never seen that locomotive before,  and I would certainly have remembered it.   

If this is a contest, then you are the hands down winner with that locomotive.  I believe "ugly" would  want nothing to do with this guy.
