Where NOT TO STAY when going to York in October?

I stayed at my usual "El Cheapo" Rodeway Inn in downdown York. Awful view, no pool, but for $90. I got a decent size, clean room, with wii, microwave, frige, coffee maker, iron, comfortable chair for reading, and free USA Today and coffee/juice/danish. It's located only 1 1/2 miles/4 minutes from the fairgrounds.

You would hate it, so book somewhere else.

Why do you need an iron?  I would demand $5 rebate since I don't use one.

I used it to iron my badge flat. It had become curved from resting on my pot-belly all day

Hi Alex, I didn't realize that to go to york in October I would have to make

reservation's now. I just want to know Is this something I should do now

also. Your question about where to stay is a good one. I would like to know

about that too.Can some of you forum member's help us out with this because

I don't want to end up in a bad hotel. I'm a clean freak. I would also like to

know where to rent a wheelchair/ motor chair for my father he has breathing

problem's and cannot walk for more than a few minites .

You don't have to make your reservations now, although it sure doesn't hurt to do so if you know you are planning to attend.  In recent years, because the number of hotels in the area has grown and because the attendance at York appears to be slipping a bit, I have found that it is possible to get reservations for decent places just a few days to a couple of weeks prior to the meet.

However, if you have a particular hotel in mind, it sure would be advisable to get those reservations in early.  Our OGR crew is changing hotels again--this time back to where we originally stayed for a number of years (primarily due to convenience).  Reservations for October were made just a couple of days ago.

Again, if you have a favorite hotel or chain, book the room early.  There are plenty of good hotels in the area to choose from.  I can't comment on one that I would not stay at again because I haven't run into that situation.

Allan gives good advice. I am not fussy, and I live only 2 hours away, so if I decide to stay over, I usually book a week or two before the Meet.

Be aware that "early booking/cheaper prices" often have a "no refund" if you cancel at all (not just "last minute").

Book the Yorktowne Inn in the center of York and minutes from the fairgrounds.

Do you know something we don't about the Thursday Meet day?

Seems they should give everyone at least a one meet notice.

Holidy Inn & conference center, Loucks rd..The best. But then I have only been going to York for 36 years.

The Motel 6 up by the "Round The Clock" diner is OK.  It's clean, reasonably priced and convenient.

It has decent sized rooms, reasonably comfortable beds, TV, and morning coffee in the lobby.

Don't stay at the Super 8 on N. George & Route 30. I stayed there my first trip down. Smelled like smoke and they had a candle burning in my room when I checked in.

How many of these places have Internet?

Several years back, I stayed at the Motel 6 right at the junction of I-83 and US 30.   It was clean, quiet, and at the time, seemed to be in a relatively nice area.   And most importantly, didn't cost an arm and a leg.    I know time tend to change things, but it may be worth checking out......

My wife and I are considering buying a house in the area as my two brothers and two daughters live in the area. If we do, you would be most welcome as a guest.

ON the subject of October York - I'd like to know what is required to be able to attend. Yes, I am a a complete York virgin. Being way out west and very rural, I don't know anything about it all. BUT! I do have two free tickets on American I'd like to use before either they expire - or AA goes full belly up! One for Vegas, and one for York! Could someone point me to the info needed for attending?

Reminds me of the days when the family would go camping...in a station wagon. Dad took the front seat, Mom got the middle seat, and us four kids got the back.

Probably easier to find them at the meet, it'll get pretty crowded at your place.

First, join the TCA (www.traincollectors.org) and then visit the TCA Eastern  Division website (www.easterntca.org) for York Meet registration info.

That and a few bucks is all you will need to join and to register for York.

Michael, be prepared for a few dozen (if not more) toy train nuts camping out in your front yard, living room, dining room, back porch, wherever.

We'll be looking at houses the second week of May. Bring some eggs Farmer Bill.
