Agree with Chuck above, it sounds to me he's referring to motorized units like the #50 gang car, #60 trolley, #68 executive inspection car, the different 20-ton gas turbine & vulcan units, ballast tamper, etc. and not powered locomotives like F3s, Hudsons, FM Train Masters, etc.

I think some folks are having fun with what "powered unit" means.
As an aside, I've never been 100% in agreement with classifying the gas turbine and Vulcans as motorized units. IMHO, they are little locomotives.

I might have to modify my answer above to rotary snowplow.

I received a #65 handcar for a Christmas present when I was a kid, but ran the heck out of it and melted the car (still have the parts). Did anyone else burn out there hand car?
My other favorite was the #50 gang car. This thing took a beating and never gave me any problems. Great design.
My tie ejector car is another favorite, replaced all the missing parts and still runs great.

My favorite is the tie ejector car but the gang car is a very, very close second.  I enjoy these units because they have some action and movement.  I also enjoy the gas turbine units because I still think they look kind of neat scooting their way around my layout.    Oh the heck with it; I like all of the motorized units.

Didn't Lionel originally classify them as motorized units?  If so you'd have to take your disagreement up with them.

I just checked the 1955 Lionel catalog.
The page that has the #41 Army switcher is titled:
"Take a look at these top-action Lionel motor units for '55".

If that is an indication of how Lionel classified the #41, then I guess the 6250 Seaboard was classified as a motor unit too. It's on the same page.
I'm too lazy to get out any authentic Lionel service material right now. I checked Olsen's library to see how the #41 switcher was categorized in the service manual. The pages are categorized as  LOC-41. Then again, the 54 ballast tamper, and 55 tie jector also carry the LOC designation

Regardless, I wasn't expecting any changes in how trains are categorized on my account.
