Wow! Initially I didn’t see anything whimsical in the picture. Looked at this thread last night and didn’t understand the question. Cool vehicles make faces at me all the time. Hmmm, maybe it’s a sign of a bigger problem.

Mater

I purchased Mater & Lightning recently from Wal-Mart...

I am looking for Rescue Squad Mater now, I just refuse to pay the cost on Fee-Bay......

Mattel / Disney calls them 1/55 scale.....but it is a cartoon.....so how knows!

I find them a bit small for O.....but better than too big!

There is a plastic model kit that claims to be 1/43 scale.

The Disney Store sells both 1:43 and 1:55.  There are a lot more offerings of 1:55.  I think most of these are around the 3" range and the 1:43's are 3.75" plus.  I bought some 1:43's today to go with my other 1:43 cars and trucks used on my 3 auto carrier trains.

OK as long as we are talking whimsical, I have been looking for a long time for a large Godzilla, big enough that a train could pass between its legs.  The plan is to light him up with leds.  I think that fits into the whimsical category.

The kids just love seeing crazy things on train layouts, especially things that are in their roundhouse of toys.

BTW - if you should see a Godzilla running down the road, lasso him and I'll pick him up for the layout

When my kids were little, I would put a circle of track around the X mas tree, more to please me than them. I used an old 2055 and pulled a bunch of gondolas, each loaded with little decorated packages.  My wife collects Nativity scenes in every size and style, some from foreign countries, some home-made...you name it, she's got it.

One day I came home from work, and heard the train running. I checked the living room, and saw the Holy Family, the 3 wise men, and all the beasts from the stable, riding around and around. It seemed like They were all enjoying the ride.

You can't top that for whimsy AND sacrilege!

When setting up the standard gauge layout at the Children's Book Fair Sunday, my grandson put this one out. The younger kids seemed to only notice the lady being saved from the dinosaur, the parents did not seem to have an issue with Naughty Noel being rescued. I'm sure she will need rescuing in a few weeks at The Banning Train Festival.

Too funny! I guess the Wise men finally learned that camel trains aren't the only game in town.

On an HO Museum Layout I have an excavator digging into the side of a hill and a dinosaur head popping out.  They used to sell an inflatable Godzilla that was 6 feet tall.   That might only be HO scale though.
