Hello guys and gals

Who does custom painting on "O" scale diesels this time of the year ?  That can do a SIMPLE paint job / decal work like the Lionel # 634 switcher.  I  soon will have a Railking NW-2 switcher and would like to have the shell repainted to be like the #634.  That 634 switcher was my first switcher I had in 1965.  I would like to install LED's in front and back headlights, I think 5mm? I have long time emotional ties to the #634.

Many thanks, guys

Tiffany

think i would find a 634 in the first place.....trains of that era are at almost give-a- away prices

There's a reason that those are at giveaway prices.  If you actually want to run it, it's not much of a locomotive.  I suspect that she's going to actually run it.  The combination of a single motor AC that is only powering the front truck leads to very poor traction, not to mention mediocre speed control.  Since I suspect she'll also like to run it with DCS, that's a non-starter as well.

A gentleman by the name of Mr. Gerry Bernet does custom painting work for The Model Railroad Shop in Piscataway, NJ. He's done a number of pieces for me over the years and his work is of the highest quality. Since you have a specific Lionel inspired paint scheme in mind, you'd have to provide him with the appropriate reproduction decals for the 634 if choose to have him paint your model. Gerry's reputation precedes him as he's even participated in the cosmetic restoration of historic 1:1 locomotives. You can contact the store at 732-968-5696 to discuss having your locomotive painted if you so choose.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Hello Jim Berger.........

This lionel switcher is very poorly made (plastic non-operating couplers, single axle drive with no axle bearings, bare bone shell with no trim, stamped sheet metal frame, plastic truck side frames) back then I didn't care as I was 6 years old but in 1975, I learned to do repairs on Lionel trains as it was fun then but it is not now and just then I realized it really  truly is a piece of junk and it can pull 4 all plastic cars that's all and wanted to use a railking switcher instead and have the shell repainted like the 634 is with a much better railking chassis.  Check out the pictures of the 634 on Ebay and you will see the constructions of it.

Have you tried making a phone call to either of them.  In this hobby I find that phone calls get quicker results than emails.

Hello Bossman284...........

Calling them or anyone is a hassle to me because I am hearing-impaired that's why I use E-mails instead. I agree that phone call is quicker.

That is understandable.  I too like to deal with emails because its easy and I can send them any time, but a lot of the hobby community, eve those with websites, are older and less tech savvy, and responding to emails isn't always a priority.  I hope you hear back and resolve your issues soon.

Tiffany i just talk to Bob at modeltrainstuff. He said your package was picked up yesterday by ups and he did not get your emails for some reason and he said he would try to call you and to sometimes ups does not scan item everytime just give it 24 to 48 hours to update

Hello chessie1971..........

Modeltrainstuff.com gave us a call through a relay service for hearing impaired and told us that it was shipped and I am to get the package next Monday or Tuesday.  They called us this morning about noon time.  I guess UPS web site messed up and the tracking code still the same today as yesterday (no updates on shipping information). We just got home from the dentist few mins ago.  I will just sit back and wait and see, in mean time I will just go take the railking NW-2 apart and do the grease and oiling on gears and wheel axle bearings.  Thank you for calling them for me, it made them do something

Hello guys and gals.........

I decided to NOT repaint the railking NW-2 because this one already has a beautiful paint job "Southern" in green and white band with gold pin stripes and gold lettering # 1039, it is really nice !!!  When the paint job get mess up then of course I will have it repainted to be like the # 634 someday.  I really loved that green color and the gold pin stripes. I was shopping for the Santa Fe version of the engine, no luck but picked this "Southern" as it was a bargain.
