I've looked all over the internet and can't find anything about who Pacific Limited was (owner, when in business, etc.) .  They seem to have some very nice brass rolling stock, but must have been fairly short lived.  Can't even find it listed on Uncle Dave's Brass website for all time importers, which is fairly complete. Can anyone tell me?

I'm very interested in seeing a photo of their O scale SP C series caboose and find nothing on the internet for that model as well.

Well, lets give it a start. 

 Since you met Rich Yoder this past Strasburg show we can say his cars are top notch.  ACF watermelon cars should be delivering soon and Mather cars are next up.  

 Norm Buckhart's Protocraft cars are also top notch, being built by Boo Rim who is one of the premier builders.

 Kohs cars are astronomically priced but almost museum quality.   Hard to find and high priced but if you find a fave go for it!

 Pacific Limited cars, whicn were imported by the late Pat O'Boyle, also command premium prices.   Some are very unique cars and they are generally very accurate (tho I don't think the much-revered 1932 ARA car is his best effort).   His "older" cars, the single and double sheathed cars are fantastic cars but they were only done in "as built" form which limits their use.   All in all some very desirable models and VERY well researched.

 Steve Grabowski's Keystone Model Works PRR gondola and hopper cars are also awesome cars and usually fetch a premium price.   He has some models in stock yet.

The "older" imports are Precision Scale.  Some are really good and some are older and lesser quality but still unique.   Pretty much variety in price depending on the car and the rarity/demand.   PSC did LOTS Of cars over the years.

 Other smaller imports are the HobbyHill brass ACF wood reefer and two types of tank cars.   A tad more less often seen and sometimes premium priced.   The WA Drake tank cars are also nice models and they command a premium when seen.   And Division  Point imported cabeese and SP/UP GS gondolas.

 Let's see, we also have some other miscellaneous cars that are seen occasionally such as the Hallmark/I&I B&O wagontop hoppers, Hallmark PRR gondolas or some of the Overland models.   Nice models that are occasionally seeen.

The oldest "vintage" commonly seen are Max Gray cars.  Less details than the more modern cars and often bargain prices but very sturdy construction.

Pat imported two versions of sp cabeese and the same in sp gondolas.    There were four or five b-50-14 boxcar variants.      If you want I can email you a production list of the models made.

 

the NYC boxcars were the broadest class done, some are excellent a few rather thin ( like the overpriced MP '32).   I hold that his sp and gn cars are the best built, the 32 and NYC vary in quality.

Charles Patrick "Pat" O'Boyle died at his Woodland home on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at age 62.

Mr. O'Boyle was born in Shreveport, La., March 17, 1945 to Charles Martin and Nellie Irene (Sargent) O'Boyle. He had been a Yolo County resident for 10 years. Mr. O'Boyle entered the US Army in 1965, went to Military Police School in Ft. Gordon, Ga., and received a Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in January 1967. Mr. O'Boyle was president of Pacific Limited, which built model trains and railroads. He also worked in law enforcement for the Oakland Police Department.

Survivors include Mr. O'Boyle's sister, Ja'Nell O'Boyle Scott of Fairfield, nephews, Charles Snyder and spouse Chris of Pittsburgh, Joseph Snyder and spouse Melanie of Antioch and Tom DeCosta and spouse Anita of Fairfield, and niece Shelly Maher of Clear Lake. He was preceded in death by his brother, Mike O'Boyle.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Diabetes Association of Sacramento, Sierra Chapter, 2720 Gateway Oaks Drive, Suite 110, Sacramento 95833.

Services: A graveside service is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 15 at the Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Ave., Dixon with Rev. LeRoy Rittenback officiating. Military honors will be presented. Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

It's always the good guys who pass too soon.  But, Pat left a legacy of fantastic models that will live on for decades to come.

Pat was also a true gentleman.   I never had the pleasure of meeting him but he took time to reply personally, in a timely manner,  to each and every one of my snail mail letters that I sent him. 

It's sad that some painstaking researchers like Pat had problems in their dealings with their builders.  I certainly admire him and had he not be called home he had quite a number of "essential freight cars" in his consist of models to build.

I most admire his knack in picking models.  He certainly seemed to like his west coast models but he had an appreciation for building an accurate fleet.  His interest in NYC USRA steel clones and PRR H21 hoppers and WWI USRA cars and WWII War Emergency gons showed his appreciation for the common freight car.     

It's just sad that he did not live to see the fruits of his labor include the X3 tanker and the FGEX reefers and X25's.   Three cars that were everywhere.   That would have been fantastic.
