Mike: (and others)  Keep your receipt for the charges.  I have been double-charged at a motel in Columbus, Ohio.  My credit card got charged when I made the reservation, and again after I checked out.  I got it straightened out, but it took lots of phone calls and a couple of billing cycles to get the extra charges removed.

I have noticed that there seems to be a lot of 5% or so discount for prepay and no cancelation policy on motel rooms. I don't like the no cancelation policy so I don't bite on the small discount. However if you don't mind prepay and no cancel, the booking sites like Expedia offer a much greater discount. With them, there is an option as well but the discount option is more worth it.

Yes, that is the one.  Dates for this fall are Sept. 19 & 20.  Used to be the East Coast Large Scale Train Show, originally started by Aristo years ago in Atlantic City.  Now, the spring event (same location) is Large Scale and the fall event is all scales.

By the way:  You folks can go along with that pay-in-advance thing if you care to or must, but I'll go out of my way to avoid it.  Never have paid in advance for a hotel room yet, and I don't intend to do so in the future, even if it limits travel opportunities.  And the "no cancellation" thing is a definite deal breaker.  Way too many things can happen between the time you book and the time you actually use the reservation.

All...Just FYI...as I go back and forth on Rt 30 from Lancaster to York I noticed a couple of nice looking hotels on the Lancaster side not far from the river (about 20 minutes at most to the fair grounds).  I think one is a Main Stay hotel?  Anyway, they looked nice and may be cheaper than the typical York ones.  Again, just FYI.  BigRail
