Talked to a service tech at MTH today and I was told that the only way you can wire this on fastrack is with the infra-red activation accessory which shoots out a beam which reflects off the train when it is coming.  He further pointed out that this could be used to adjust the timing of the disappearing passengers.   He stated that I would not be able to use a Lionel accessory operating pack to do this. Seems kind of funny to me, but I am guessing there has to be another way to do this.  He did state that a switch could be used, but it would not be automatic then??  How can this be done without the switch and the infra-red activation accessory or can it?

Well, the 153IR certainly would be a viable option. I'm trying to grasp your opposition to using it. Another option would be to configure an isolated block section in your FasTrack to activate the accessory. As for $$$, time, and aggravation, the 153IR looks pretty good from where I'm sitting.
