I have a slight proublem believing that. because I have 2 proto 1 steam boars ,one with C&NW the other a premier challenger.  The challenger didnt want to funtion wright.. so Id tried the C&NW and that worked great.. but I'd wanted to try the challenger chip.. no go.. it wouldnt work at all in that board. makes a bizzing sound.Even with the QSI 2 boards with there chips did the samething..now if you know somthing Im doing wrong I would apreciate if you can tell me..

MTH Protosounds (AKA PS-1) is what we are talking about.  Do not try to mix QSI chips (or boards) and Protosounds chips.  What are the MTH product numbers that your boards came out of and I can fine tune things for you?

Did you ever consider that the Challenger chip might just be junk and the boards it came out of might be OK?

I enjoyed reading your post.

It varies.  The first thing the processor does is retrieve data from memory and the chip.  The software or firmware can vary and when it replaces memory from the chip it may make the top board non operational.

Since the software QSI made overtime evolved along with product some are not compatible.  MTH required certain capability and excluded others that QSI was working on and installing in their systems.  All soon over run by Lionel TMCC and then MTH DCS.

Josey, That C3 top board may be your issue.  That probably only work with the very early 1993/4 Chip like the basic F-3.
