Hello everyone.  Getting back into o gauge for the first time in almost 20 yrs.  Started to acquire everything back in early 2015.

Started off recently with the scaletrax 4 X 8 Roosevelt Junction (phase 1 )  in the spare bedroom.  Until my garage can be used as my custom layout, I wanted to have somewhere to run trains in the meantime.

After more planning and figuring I would like to increase the 4 X 8 to 6 X 10.  Keep in mind this is the max and can't squeeze anymore out of it.  I really like the MTH scaletrax 6 X 10 main street but would like to have the inside and outside loops where 2 trains can run simultaneously but still switch between the two.  I tried messing around with this on SCARM but couldn't seem to come up with an easy and practical way.

The other option is what I came up with modifying my existing layout.  I like having a train yard and keep 054 curves as minimum.

My layout idea is attached.   I would love to have #6 switches for the yard but availability is a joke on those so I stuck with what I can presently get.  Also there are 2 custom curves on the RH side but sticking with sectional track for now would be a little more helpful.

Looking to get opinions and ideas from all of you as I am getting back into the hobby.

Thank you

6 X 10 roosevelt 1.2

Here's a thread along the same lines....(might give you an idea or two)

I changed the turnout to a LH as suggested.  The issue with either turnout is that the uppermost yard line is too close to the main line.  Only about 1" between outer rails.

I modified it a bit with flex to keep a 4" distance between center rails. It works but doesn't keep the yard symmetrical.

Thanks for the help.

Atlas Track, the curves, are designed at 4.5" centers.  Any custom design is possible, Yard, storage area often is  4" Center to Center or less.   Inner track pictured is O45, 45" diameter, Outer Track is O54, 54" diameter.   9" Different in diameter is 4.5" track, center to center spacing.

Thank you for the info but not looking to purchase new track for this particular layout as I have plenty of scaletrax for it minus a piece or two.

When the layout for the garage is started a different track system is almost definite. I very much like Atlas and MTH solid rail track but MTH is limited in selection and both are having serious troubles in availability.  As much as they appeal to me it looks as though it will end up being GG and Ross. With that said the garage layout is probably a year out so who knows if anything changes with track manufacturers by then...

Right-click the SCARM attachment and "save as". Then open on your machine.

Thank you very much for the time you took out to help. I really like this idea. The 2 fitment areas should not be a problem if I use a piece of sectional or flex and just make a custom cut.

Rather than use a 054 curve coming off that turnout, try a 042 or even a 036.  Its unlikely that you'll ever put your largest piece of motive power on that siding.
