Hi RRDOC,

 

I love that Borden's Milk Tank Car. My dad worked for Borden's in their cheese division. All I've found so far is a blue Borden's box car.

I went wayyyy over budget this trip.

I was finally able to find the GGD Pennsylvania Observation and Dining car set I have been looking for for almost 4 years. The problem was the seller wouldn't break them out of the lot of cars he had. So I ended up also buying a 4 car set of p-70 coaches and the 3 car head end set.

Got home, took a look at the p-70s I already had, same set of road numbers

Looked at the baggage car I already had, same road number again

So, the good news is I got the cars I really wanted but now I need to find someone to sell the doubles to.

I also picked up 2 12-1 Sleepers that I didn't already have and I put the new 1938 Broadway limited set on lay away. All together ended up picking up 17 Golden Gate scale cars in PRR. Yikes

I had a great time this year.  I talked to a lot of folks I hadn't seen in a while, dropped off an engine with Alex M to upgrade, and attended all the DCS/Legacy/forum meetings.

 

This year I purchased only items that were on my buy list.  I did come close to some impulse buys because I saw some great deals.  Unfortunately, I did not find many items on my buy list.  This may be because the things I want now are hard to find, like the K-line 21" Huron Rapids sleeper or the LRRC U.S. Army Fort Leonard Wood Tractor Trailer and Flatcar.

 

I did get another Weaver B60 Baggage/mail for my express train, and several pieces of RCS track: 2 #8 curved switches, 1 O-96 switch, and several uncoupler track sections.

 

My big purchase this year was on Wednesday at B&E Junction train store in downtown York.  I was killing time there and found, on a high shelf, an engine I've been looking for for a couple of years; the MTH scale N&W high nose SD45 in the Bicentennial paint scheme.

Spent the first 3 hours with friends who withered away. Walked ALL the halls. Didn't buy much but got great below market prices on what I did buy. Aside from what is in the photos I picked up a flatcar w/ Apache helicopter for my Army train. Saw the display with the Army rail cars but they were toooo expensive for my blood.

 

Went to the OGR meeting. I was hoping that along with the lecture style format which was informative and entertaining that they would have had a coffee in your hand kind of meet and greet.

I did get to meet a few people.

First time at York as an adult (Last time was probably 1993) brought my 4 Year old and 7 Year Old. We all had a blast, visited Starsburg Rail-Road and RR Museum of Pennsylvania on way home Saturday. All in All a Great Trip!

One new thing I saw this time was what I'd call a "walking booth". It was a guy walking around and wearing large signs, front and back, advertising that he was selling plyers. That was Thursday. I wonder if the ED told him to stop?

Joe, I chatted very briefly with him while sitting for a moment.  He had some obvious intellectual disability.

This was one of my shortest York due to a daughter's birthday and a scouting trip on the weekend.   Luckily, I live close enough to go there for a few hours.  It great running into friends at breakfast and looking at the Trackers layout.  For me, York is mostly about spending time with friends.  

 

I did not have a large wish list since I am ordering some big ticket items in the new Lionel catalog.  I have a large backlog of project to do on the layout, so I not adding new things until they are done.  I did pick up smoke fluid, miller engineering signs, OGR Video,few scenery items i needed for my current layout project.   I wish i could have been there longer.  Next York will have a bigger haul since i will complete all my projects by this summer.

I think he was still there Friday as well. I did overhear someone talking to him, his claim was he was too late to get a table. However there were several tables in the silver hall with "For Rent" signs on them so I think he was just being a cheat

 

As for the pliers, when I first got back into the hobby I bought a pair of "Reproduction Lionel Track Pliers" soon realized all they were  is a pair of lineman pliers with a hole drilled in them.

I'm not sure I saw this exact person (he might not have wandered down my aisle), but I've seen this on a smaller scale in the past, both wanted and for sale.  I may have seen one or 2 people with wanted signs on their hats this meet.

 

Normally it's sort of a one item deal, not someone trying to sell 10's or 100's of the same thing, like a pair of pliers.

Were there any "how-to" lectures and what were their quality?

From what I could gather they thought he was selling before the official start time. It was weird

I think he finally got through to them that he was simply transferring a prior sale that had nothing to do with York

Mike Taylor gave a great demo on "Cooking Kosher". It was attended by over 25 hot dog lovers.

Picked up a 229 & a 1066 postwar Alcos.

Was looking for a 2331 Virginian Trainmaster but could'nt find that suited me.

Also found some really nice handbuilt cars from the 1950's.

Friend of mine purchased two pre war Flyer sets.

 

 

York was just great this year! Most dealers and members were looking to

'not have to take it home with them so there were some good deals. I picked up a Lionel CNJ Camel Back with TMCC and E.O.B speed control. To go along with it I got the MTH CNJ 6 car set of Madison cars, a K-Line DuPont Alum tank car, A smoking K-Line PRR MOW bunk car (been looking for this one) and a Lionel Northern Pacific 4-4-2 Atlantic with TMCC and Odyssey and a bunch of other stuff. This was really one of the better York shows!Looking forward to October!

Jeff at MTH had an excellent maintenance and repair seminar. I learned a few things.

WE picked up a load at Scenic Express that weighed about 40lbs on my shoulder.
Ballast X2, Trees, and bushes, 6 canisters of different color foliage, New Kind of Glue he talked me in too..Also purchased a new Motel small but cute, another tree, 2 train stations, and about 50 LED Flickering lites. Most of my haul was from the Orange Hall. Long walk back to car just as the rain started on Friday afternoon.

My 1st York Meet and it was AWESOME..

Me and My wife enjoyed all of it.

 

Gee, good thing they didn't see me picking up my 1948 20th Century Limited in the parking lot. Luckily I had no run ins with that overzealous security this meet. Even walked against the arrows a few times, crowd was light enough that no one cared.

What arrows?  Did I miss something?

Funny.  Did anyone notice that some of the arrows disappeared in the Orange Hall by the end of the day on Thursday?  

 

Maybe my eyes are just going bad.  

I heard one announcement on Friday to remember to follow the arrows. No one did that I could observe.

Why can't you just follow the rules, & follow the arrows. Why do some have to be Jerks.

On very crowded days I can understand how the arrows will help.  But on days or times when it's not so bad, why should I be forced to walk down a row I don't want to walk down because the next row is of interest and the arrow is in the wrong direction?  York walking is large enough.  No need to make it harder or longer than it has to be.

For those who have not been to York...unlike most train shows, the vast majority of dealers are NOT behind a counter, but sit IN the aisles. So this has walkers dodging chairs right and left in fairly narrow aisles. The arrows are a big help, no matter what the crowds.

IIRC there aren't any arrows in the dealer halls. They do help in the member halls since those tight aisles and table owners sitting in the way do cause traffic jams. However as has been said many times now the crowds were especially light this meet. Several times I wanted to double back for various reasons and it was very easy to do so, never even came close to bumping into traffic. Was so easy at one point I did it right in front of a hall attendant and they didn't care.

There certainly were arrows on the floor in the Orange Hall on Thursday. But they were missing from the last few rows.

 

This is news to me. In all 3 meets I've attended I never noticed arrows in any of the dealer halls. If they were there, not a single person was following them anyway. Dealer halls are a free for all since there's more than enough space in those aisles.

The front section of the orange hall has arrows, except for the first few rows on each end.

Yep, always has been that way. 

 

But I could see how people starting on the ends might not think to look after they are missing for the first aisle or 2.

 I found that I was going in the wrong direction after viewing those arrow-free rows. I wish they would either mark all the rows, or none.

Honestly in the dealers halls arrows are completely moot. There's already so much room it would be rather unproductive and pointless to restrict yourself to one direction. Like I said, the dealer halls are pretty much free for alls and I have yet to see even the slightest traffic issue.

Well, the show has been over long enough now that the reports and haul posts are dwindling. A little thread drift doesn't hurt in this case, since it keeps the topic alive.

 

The subject of the arrows can be considered part of the York reports anyway, since having no consequences for not following them is an indicator of the lighter attendance this meet.

Yep.... There are / have been arrows in the Orange Hall forever.  But, as we've said, some of them disappeared Thursday p.m.

 

If you're looking for trains, best to look down ... some good bargains under the tables PLUS you get to see those mysterious arrows.

Nick, have there ever been consequences of doing such a horrible act as not following the arrows?
