yes its sad were losing hobby shops in the Youngstown area but i moved here from west tn where your local hobby shop was the ups guy or your mailbox so at least this area has a few shops left. but i lived in Chicago for most of my life and many of the old standbys are gone as well. most of the reason is what  we are on now the computer we are sitting here not building or we buy from someone miles away because of a better deal. we can lament about this all we want but its a changing market place and sad as it is it a sign of the times. if your a car guy we can lament about where we can buy a new OLDS, PONTIAC, MERCURY or PLYMOUTH as well.

and when you throw in a weak economy increasing food prices medical care uncertainty many people are just getting by so their hobbies are taking a hit which then hits the hobby shops as well.  but on the bright side this area has mercer junction andersons and crouses as well as how many train shows so it can be worse.

Very true.  Truth be known, I usually buy mail order.  Everything changes.

Do you have a 69 Camaro?  I had a friend who got a '69 after we graduated from high school.  Of course it was only 5 years old then.  I liked the styling better than any since.

Very impressive!  That's a lot of information I didn't know.  Thanks.

Good Italian family owned place. It can get really busy.

That sounds great.  I haven't been in Hermitage since the last trip to Kraynak's about 10 years ago.  Combine - all I could think of was harvesting.  Probably pronounced with the Italian flair.

For those who contributed to my question in July, we went back to Youngstown yesterday for the wedding of the couple who had the shower in July.  There were several hours down time between the wedding ceremony and reception so I was able to visit Andrews in Howland.  Conveniently there was a thrift store town the road that really interested my wife, daughter, and mother-in-law, so I had ample time to visit Andrews after dropping them off.

He didn't have a bad supply of trains for a hardware store.  One train was running on the small display layout, and I saw the repair bench with a number of locomotives in various states.  I picked up an  MTH PS-2 Boxcar in B&O scheme 2012 Vol 1 Catalog 20-97289 for a nice price.  I have wanted one, because Pullman Standard built thousands of hoppers in Butler before they shut down in 1982.

Also I looked at the Stanley and Dayton cars.  The Dayton had chain drive and a tiller bar instead of a steering wheel.  Also there was an old Whizzer motorcycle.  I never heard of that one.  After I paid, I asked Mr Andrews about the cars.  He said they had belonged to his father and showed me a laminated newspaper clipping with a photo of him and his father from several years ago.  I wanted to ask him the year each vehicle was built, but he had other customers to wait on, so I thanked him and told him good day.

Thank you for the tip.  The trip made a nice diversion for all of us before it was time for the reception.

Hmm, was the other hobby store in Hermitage called Zippie's?

I recall a newstand on State Street that had a few trains in a counter as well.

And some of you may recall that before he got into train electronics, Mike Reagan owned Train America.  I was in that shop before he dropped that part of the business to focus on Train America Studios.  Of course, the rest is history...

George

I was in Andrews on Friday! I was having plexiglass cut, and he does that by the Stanley & the Dayton! How Funny! He is a Hardware Store that has trains, but even considering he is not a train store primarily, he does have a pretty good selection. It is nice having a LHS, as I was there a few months ago to pick up some N flex track for a different project. I am very fortunate. I can't imagine the fella's out there that only have a hobby lobby as their LHS...
