My favorite "engine" is a Lionel handcar that I use as a locomotive.  The Lionel O27 handcar uses the same motor as the K-line by Lionel Porter (the Porter's motor is a dual shaft version of the handcar motor with worm gears that are tighter spirals http://www.mabuchi-motor.co.jp...gi?CAT_ID=fk_130rhsh).  In the clip below, all motive power is from the handcar with its original motor, and the dump car is rather weighty.  Extra lead weights were added to the handcar for traction.  I use Red and Tacky grease -- magic!

Lionel reversing unit is in the trailing ore car.  This year, Lionel offers the 'shorty' cars that would be perfect here.

Take care, Joe.

Hmmmm. I think my favorite is my Atlas SD35 I have been working on for about nine months. I keep thinking I am done and then I find new things to do....right now I am swapping out the atlas wheels with Northwest Shortline scale wheels and a ERR cruise commander along with upgraded speaker and such. Never going to be finished at this rate CM160805-16251503

For me it has to be the engine that started it all, my dad's 671rr from 1952.  But truthfully, I don't really have a favorite.  I run everything I buy and enjoy it all!  The video is my dad's 671rr pulling a set of MTH Pennsy passenger cars and Railway express boxcar on last year's Christmas layout.  The 60 year old smoke unit is still going strong!

I would say, for real locos, the SD40-2 is my favorite but the SD80s are a close second. Got to like them when NS took over CRs locos. NS was using them on coal trains on the South Fork Secondary  still in blue paint. They were keeping them close to Altoona because of reliability issues. The one day I was there they were having air brake problems. Gradually they were repainted in to the black and white and the NS shop guys got them running. Sure are a nice, powrful engine. Fun t watch. Good looking.

Although I don't have a picture of it because it's packed away, it would have to be my U.P. DDA40X Centennial by MTH. I always loved the locomotive and always wanted one as a model. About two years ago, one came up on E-Bay and I bid and won it. It was my Christmas present that the wife and daughter bought for me I told them! LOL! I told them when it arrives just inspect it for damage and then put it away until Christmas, and surprisingly I didn't peek not once until Christmas morning! As a extra surprise, although the engine itself was well over 10-15 years old, I know I was the first one to ever remove it from it's packaging, Cool! The next in line would be my NYC E-8 set.

i don't know what it is and don't have pictures

its an old black single unit engine with a roof covered with what looked like bumps and crests

it had all these sharp edges and angles all over it

no sound system just loud motor noise and squeaking

a 3 or 4 piece windshield and no cab lights

i saw it when i was 6

can any body guess what it is

i've been trying to figure it out for 15 years now
