Here's a basic check list of things to check on ScaleTrax switches. I don't ever recall finding a single switch with all of these issues, but most will have at least one. 1. Air gap between the frog and closure rails. 2. Air gap between the closure rails and points. 3. Air gap between the frog and running rails. (Only necessary if using electric non-derailing) 4. The top of the center rail diamond must be flush with the top stock rails and closure rails. 5. Continuity between the stock center rail and center rail fork. 6. Continuity between the stock center rail and center rail diamond. 7. Continuity between the three center rail legs. (Can be cut to create isolated power districts) 8. Insulation between the center rails and stock rails (Only seen a problem on #4's) 9. Flush alignment of curved point and curved closure rail when point is loaded. Here are the corrective measures for each issue. 1. Open gap by moving closure rail. Widen gap with Dremel if necessary. Insure gap remains open by installing shims. 2. Open gap by moving closure rail. Widen gap with Dremel if necessary. 3. Open gap by moving running rail. Widen gap with Dremel if necessary. Insure gap remains open by installing shims. 4. If the switch is uninstalled, tap down of diamond until flush and adjust retaining washers. If switch in already installed, grind down diamond with Dremel. 5. Solder rail to fork. (Requires special flux for soldering aluminum) 6. Solder fork to diamond. (Requires special flux for soldering aluminum) 7. Install jumper wires or use as an isolation point. 8. Cut jumper between through and diverging route center rails. Replace with wired jumper if necessary. 9. True up joint with Dremel or file.
