I explored this very question in regards to my future plans for 3 rail traditional PW type trains. I even set up a scene with a 6464 boxcar (my largest boxcar I plan to use) with 1/64 figures and a vehicle. You can decide if it's within your "acceptability" range.

I know what I decided.
