Here's a concept that I worked on - the spacing at the top is 6" center rail to center rail which permits adding in the 2 crossover pairs of switches at a later date
The inner loop needed O48 to fit table. One 2 x 4 added to the right side of the opening will make it work to pack it out.
The inner loop permits changing direction.
From here O36 loop can be added or sidings for activity.
I tried to keep the lift-out / lift-up area spaced for whole tracks. I think the new Lionel bridge would fit right in there or a 40" Atlas truss when funds permit.
So, you run scale diesels everywhere and scale steamers on the outside only. Semi-scale runs everywhere.
