Yes, the ES44 engine itself will negotiate the switch, the rolling stock behind it might not because of the way the kinematic coupler works. The rolling stock needs to be a coupler arm that's independent of the truck and the heavier the better. The tank car I used was pulled right off the track by the engine's coupler springing back.
