I'd never heard of theater cars before.  They look like modern day versions of observation cars that allow a lot of people to look out the back window.  Are they used nationwide now?

They are  modified passenger cars to allow railroad officials and guests, often shipping customers, to view the railroad, or inspect track.  They run on office car, executive trains. Norfolk Southern, CSX, Union Pacific, and I believe BNSF all have versions of this car.
